A Generation Y’s Perspective Regarding What is NOT Important to Consumers
By: Drew Meyers, Zillow Business Development Specialist | December 14, 2007
My colleague, Sara Bonert, played off of yesterday’s RIS Media’s Nine Things Consumers Won’t Care About in the New Year by giving a Generation Y’s perspective of the issue on Active Rain. As a fellow Gen Y’er, I can relate to almost all of Sara’s thoughts on the subject of things consumers don’t care about. One thing I really agree with is Sara’s thoughts on subject number 9 from the RIS Media article -
[consumers don't care about] How good you are at what you do. They only care about how good you are at who you are and how you can help them get what they want.
[Sara Bonert] I DO care about how good you are. Obviously I want to hire a GOOD agent. However, I will not decide how good you by you telling me. I will decide based on how I feel about you when I meet you and what other people say about you. The ‘other’ people’s opinions on you will not come from a testimonial sheet you bring in. I will read what people are saying about you, unsolicited, on message boards or any 2.0 site that I can find.
If you’re still trying to hard sell yourself to today’s young and Internet empowered consumer, it’s a good bet you’ll find it a very difficult task. There’s a vibrant discussion in the comments (57 currently), so make sure to at least skim the comments before clicking to something else.

Other peoples’ opinions matter much. You have expressed my sentiments. I can’t count on the testimonial letter the realtor brings me. lol
