219 Ocean Blvd, Golden Beach, FL
For sale: $12.9 million

This ultramodern house with its jutting white walls and angular windows has an ultrahistoric past. It sits on the same foundation as a house Franklin Delano Roosevelt owned as his family beach getaway during his presidency.

The new home, with 5 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms and nearly 8,000 square feet, was designed by architect Carlos Zapata and built by a previous owner in 1994. It has since been updated to include a 4-car garage, also designed by Zapata.

This unique home is in a line of beachfront mansions in the swanky town of Golden Beach outside Miami. The town, just 4 miles wide, sits between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean, along miles of white sandy beach.

A home on the same oceanfront street inspired a 1974 Eric Clapton album: “461 Ocean Boulevard.”

Zapata designed a dramatic entry, with a steel trapezoid door and koi ponds. The home has 20-foot ceilings with huge windows facing the infinity-edge pool and beach. A floating staircase leads to an airy, second-floor loft living room that looks down on the main floor.

“The architecture itself is spectacular,” said Jill Eber, who holds the listing along with Jill Hertzberg, both of Coldwell Banker Previews International’s The Jills. “The angles of the glass, just opening up to the views of the beach and the ocean are spectacular.”

The master bedroom has his and her bathrooms and dressing areas. The home also features a formal dining room and a large, European kitchen with stainless steel counters.
