Are you blogging yet?

By: David Gibbons, Zillow Director, Community Relations | July 14, 2006

It was noteworthy a few weeks ago when super-blogger, Robert Scoble blogged that his Bothel house was for sale. I thought I’d follow up and see how that was going:

  • First, a bunch of blogs picked up on the news that the Scobleizer house was listed — including the Inman Blog which we’ll come back to in a minute.
  • Next, Scoble’s agent, Stan Mackey, reported that the listing’s virtual tour received 7,000 visitors in less than a week. Stan says that the most visits he previously had is about 700 — in a month.
  • A week after listing (at 107% of its Zestimate) an offer was accepted and the house is under inspection.

Our local market is competitive but that’s still a speedy sale.

Back to the Inman Blog. When Jessica Swesey reported this story she asked realtors whether they were blogging and if they are they seeing returns on the time they are investing. These comments are a good sampling of the responses she received;

  • John said: " My blog is very successful, and I can quantify the number of leads that have led to sales."
  • From Dustin at RCG: "It’s definitely working over on Rain City Guide… My wife is gets a few leads each week (anywhere from 2 to 5) and we do no marketing whatsoever outside our blog."
  • From another John: "I get 98% of my business from my blog …"
  • UrbanDigs said: "So far, UrbanDigs has brought me 1 signed contract, 7 high quality leads I am currently working with, and 1 signed exclusive for sale."
  • And Nubricks commented: "I blog in the International Property arena and find my readership really respond to the format".

Most homebuyers are online — a blog is a great way to meet them on their terms.

    While my blog only gets about 75 visits a day, it has done a lot for our business. It helps establish us as “experts” in the local real estate market and it drives traffic to our main site.

    The best thing about it though is the friends we’ve made through blogging.

    Jay - You are so right - I’ve met some very interesting people through blogging. Thanks for reminding me why I need to get more active on my personal blog.
