At $303M, Who Can Afford the White House?
By: Whitney Tyner, Zillow PR Specialist | January 14, 2009
Less than one week from today, the Obamas (+Michelle’s mom) will move into their new $300+ million dollar palace at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Jealous? You should be. With such a hefty price tag, only a handful of celebrities and business icons could even afford to live in such lavish quarters. According to our data analysts, to afford the $1.48 million monthly mortgage, one would have to make more than $53 million a year. That puts the White House out of the league of most politicians. Only a few celebrities, sports stars and business moguls can actually afford the White House, if it were up for sale.
Whose annual paycheck makes the cut?
Steve Schwarzman (Chairman and CEO Blackstone Group) – $350 Million
Oprah Winfrey (No explanation required) – $260 Million
Tiger Woods (Pro golfer) – $100 Million
Larry Ellison ( Oracle CEO) – $84 Million
Jay-Z (Hip-hop artist/businessman) – $83 Million
Phil Mickelson (Pro golfer) – $62 Million
Many thanks to Forbes for shedding light on the exorbitant salaries of our country’s richest residents.

The White House is on loan or lease, at best, to presidents who are lucky enough to get their nation’s majority vote of confidence.
The staff duty to serve the president and his family doesn’t extend to the mother. They serve her only as the staff agrees. They are under no express obligation to bring Michelle’s mother french toast in bed….have any other presidents brought their mother-in-law with them to the White House? Jackie had a nanny, but that’s all I can recall…….

Honestly, who really cares who can afford the White House? Explain to me, please, how in the world a post like this is beneficial to people interested, invested, or even hurt by today’s real estate market. Report on something worthwhile, or don’t report at all.

Jay-Z could afford the White House? I think he’s pretty popular, but I didn’t know he made so much more money than just about anyone else. That’s impressive.
