Billie Joe Armstrong’s Oakland, CA Home For Sale

By: Whitney Tyner, Zillow PR Specialist | October 21, 2009

Billie Joe Armstrong, guitarist and lead vocalist for the punk rock band Green Day, is selling his Oakland, CA home for $4,850,000. The 5-bedroom, 4-bath, 7,000 sq ft property is located at Manchester, Oakland , CA 94618.

From the listing description:

Sited on the grounds of the former Julia Morgan designed “Red Gate” estate, this stately Mark Becker French Normandy home combines the beauty of the past with the graceful stylings and technology of the present. Fully fenced on over 1/2 acre, this level in 5+ bedroom, 4+ bath home will gratify the senses and captivate the mind. As you ascend the original Julia Morgan brickwork to the formal front entry, the custom Alder wood door and generously proportioned porch come into focus. Rough hewn wooden arches frame panoramic vistas from Skyline Blvd and Berkeley Hills to The San Francisco Bay and beyond.

Some of our favorite real estate commentators were surprised by the home’s conservative decor. Why? The nude walls and mainstream furniture are a far cry from the rocker’s funky, alternative personality. Armstrong and his wife, Adrienne Nesser,  have two sons. No word why or where the Armstrong family is moving.

    Hi All,

I’m honored to be representing the buyers in this transaction, so I thought I’d pop in to say hello. The home is gorgeous. It’s the nicest home I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been around the block, in terms of the high-end real estate market, having visited hundreds of homes above $2.5m in the Bay Area. But I do represent listings and assist sellers looking for homes in all price ranges. Though this home is truly a masterpiece and a one-of-kind rarity,

There is another unique home down the street called the Margarido House. It’s completely different and has a modern and edgy feel to it. It is a LEED Platinum certified Green construction home and is currently rated as the “greenest” home in the United States. If you would like to arrange for a private tour of that incredible property, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time. You can find that home quite quickly via googling “Maragrido House Oakland.”

There are also many other beautiful high-end homes on the market right now, and it would be my pleasure to assist any of you in viewing them.

The home located at Manchester is a true and rare gem. It’s design is timeless and I only wish there were other’s like it. Unfortunately, I’ve just not seen anything in all my years that compares, and that speaks volumes to the builder, Mark Becker’s, talents. The warmth and energy the home puts off are truly incredible.

With that said Mr. Becker is actively involved in the construction of custom homes, so one need only find the perfect lot, and “off you go.” There are many ideal lots available, in the Bay Area right now, and they’d be ideally suited to one of his designs.

So, if I can assist any of you or answer any of your questions about lots, Mark Becker, area homes or other well well known and uniquely talented Bay Area architects, please contact me at any time. I work throughout the United States, in all major markets, from New York to Maui, so again feel free to write me with any question that you require assistance with, as I’m happy to help via e-mail, phone, or in person.

    Cheers to you all,

It’s a bit funny to me that people comment on the style or decor of a home for sale. 99.9% of the time, particularly in the case of high-end homes or homes of private clients, they have moved out and the home is prepared for market - purposefully and strategically depersonalizing the space so that prospective buyers can imagine themselves in the home. When a home is overly personalized, it makes it difficult for a buyer to see themselves living in it as “their” home - this is one of the most important things you can do when preparing a home for sale.
