Carole Lombard’s “Party” Home For Sale, or Rent
She was one of Hollywood’s more playful stars, known for her entertaining parties and fiery on-screen personality. Now, the Hollywood Hills home made famous by the late, great Carole Lombard is for sale for $2.7 million. Or, it can be rented for $5,800 a month.
Lombard was regarded as one of Hollywood’s great hostesses and threw theme parties (“Hospital party,” “Roman banquet”) in her fabulous Hollywood Boulevard home, which was designed by William Haines, whose design legacy still lives on. Lombard was also married to perhaps the greatest actor of the time: Clark Gable. But, alas, her life was cut short in 1942 when she died in a plane crash near Las Vegas. She was 33.
In 1934, Lombard moved into this 4-bed, 3-bath home that is described as the perfect house for entertaining (Lombard proved that), and has wood floors and a master bedroom with its own fireplace and a spiral staircase to a private loft. Bonus: There’s a private guest house out back over the garage. A brass door knocker on the front door is inscribed with the name “Carole Lombard” and another brass plate — maybe on the back door — shows Lombard’s spunky personality that lives on to this day with the inscription, “Kiss my ass!” (See photo below).
