Cher’s Former Home Listed With a $4.7 Million Price Cut

It seems like plenty of celebrities have homes in South Florida, and Cher is no exception. Cher’s former Miami Beach home, which is now for sale for $10.2 million, was not only the unstoppable diva’s primary residence in the mid 1990s, but has been home to several members of the rich and famous club.

Built in 1953, the 11,460-sq ft home was purchased by the “Moonstruck” star in 1993 for $1.5 million. With the help of mentor and interior designer Ron Wilson, who has designed 19 homes for the diva over the years, Cher had the home completely rebuilt. Featured in Architectural Digest in 1996, the resulting Renaissance-like style was a far cry from the light, Zen-like design Cher usually favors.

The beach home was turned into a grand villa, filled with “religious art, richly hued fabrics, carved woods, scrolled ironwork and stone,” reported Architectural Digest.

After Cher’s ownership, the estate became a turnstile among celebrity who’s who. According to Luxist.com, Cher sold the La Gorce Island estate in 1996 for $4.35 million to Barry Schwartz, former chairman and CEO of Calvin Klein, who then turned around and sold the property ten years later to real estate developer Todd Glaser and investment partner Armin Mattli, president of Clinique La Prairie, a luxurious Swiss spa.

The house went through another update, and was rented in 2007 to Janet Jackson for $85,000 a month, followed by Julio Iglesias and then Douglas Cramer, executive producer of the TV series “Dynasty.”

In 2008, the six-bedroom home was listed for a whopping $14.9 million, high even for Miami Beach real estate prices. The price dropped to $11.9 million in June 2010, and is currently listed at $10.2 million.

The luxurious pad sits on 158 feet of waterfront, with covered terraces, stone yard courtyards, and heated beach-front pool and spa. The grand entrance features arched ceilings and double staircases leading to the master suite. The house includes a total of 7.5 bathrooms, library, cabana and exercise room, as well as a kitchen every gourmet dreams of. A private third-story includes a living room and covered terrace with ocean views.
