Coming Soon: 25,000 For-Sale Listings from United Country
By: Jorrit Van der Meulen, VP, Partner Relations | November 8, 2007
It’s been a great couple of weeks for our soon-to-launch Zillow Listings Feed program, and today we’re happy to announce a new partner, United Country Real Estate, which will feed approximately 25,000 for-sale listings nationwide to Zillow.com. United Country has a great niche — more than 675 franchisees in 44 states specializing in small town and rural real estate. We’re really excited to get these for-sale listings up on the site.
For more information, see today’s press release. Meanwhile, we’ll be talking more about our Zillow Listings Feed program next week, at the National Association of Realtors 2007 Expo & Conference in Las Vegas. Zillow CEO Rich Barton will take the stage Wednesday, November 14 at 1:30, along with Justin McCarthy of Google and Saul Klein of Internet Crusade. We hope we’ll see you there!

Just curious, how are you going to incorporate United Country’s listing into your network. United Country specializes in rural listings, you don’t have coverage in rural areas or small towns. I am sure that it is in future plans and I can see how you can eventually get small town residential properties, but a big chunk of their listings are rural properties. These properties do not have address, thus I do not see how you will ever be able to incorporate them into your current platform. Really just wondering why you would go after a group like this. You don’t have to post this, just interested to get some feedback.
Thanks

Jake -
First, while we are matching the listings we get in these data feeds to existing properties on Zillow, it’s not a requirement that the property be in our databases for its listing to be posted. We will be creating homes that we don’t already have on the site via the feeds (just like sellers do manually on the site today.) If the home’s address can be geocoded (i.e. placed on a map), we will create a new unique property record at that address when we receive the listing. Rural addresses can look strange but in most cases, our mapping engines should be able to locate them.
Thanks - interesting question!
