Extreme Home Makeover Sneak Peek: Augustin Family of Keller, TX
By: Diane Tuman, Zillow Content Manager | December 17, 2008
OK, we’re cheating since this Extreme Home Makeover edition won’t appear on your TV box until January. But, we couldn’t resist doing a big reveal right here on ye olde Internet. According to the Dallas Morning News, the Augustin Family at 2880 Keller Hicks Rd, Keller, TX 76248 won the makeover because their home became uninhabitable due to a Father’s Day flood in 2007. Also, since the ABC show producers are basing their selections on “Heroes in the Community,” they chose the Augustin’s due to their work with Habitat for Humanity and Tiny Works of Heart, a nonprofit created by Amber Augustin that works with families of premature babies. (See more Keller, TX real estate and see Far North home values).
The work to raze the Augustins’ original home and the one you see above was done in 7 days — beginning Dec. 8 and ending on Dec. 14. The big reveal, with the show’s host Ty Pennington, was done Monday. It’s extraordinary how quickly they get things done, especially when you take into account all of the details required in a job this big. Of course, they had a lot of workers ripping it down and building it, including 75 framers and 30 bricklayers. But, sheesh — 7 days. Hopefully, all the wires and pipes are going in the right direction.

Sure hope they don’t forget the details, like sealing the fixtures, caulking around the foundation and other details that really make a difference later when they start to leak, let in bugs (or bigger critters) or let out the homeowners heat in the winter, etc….
