“Ferris Bueller” Glass Home For Sale — $2.3M
By: Whitney Tyner, Zillow PR Specialist | May 28, 2009
Update (9/24/09): If you’re a fan of the 80’s movie “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” — and we’ve come to learn there are many — you will enjoy this FOX News clip in which Sudler Sotheby’s real estate broker Meladee Hughes walks a reporter through the house, which is for sale for $2.3 million, and gives some background on the room where the car went through the window.
An ouch moment occurs at the end of the clip where the FOX anchor asks about a train whistle in the distance and says “For $2.3 million, I don’t want to be hearing a train whistle.” Oy vey.

Yes, it’s true. The home where “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” was filmed is for sale for $2.3 million. Imagine owning a piece of cinematic real estate history. The glass-walled tree house made famous in John Hughes’ cult classic is for sale. For those who somehow missed the 80’s and haven’t seen the movie, Matthew Broderick plays Ferris Bueller, a mischievous teenager who coerces his friend, Cameron Fry, and girlfriend into skipping school for the day to party across Chicago. All is well until Fry accidentally sends his father’s vintage red Ferrari through the glass pavilion of his house and into a ravine while trying to wind back kilometers on the vehicle.
The home, located at 370 Beech St, Highland Park, IL 60035, boasts incredible views of the surrounding woods, four bedrooms, the famous pavilion, and is located in the exclusive Highland Park area of Illinois. The 5,300 square feet property is comprised of two buildings made of steel and glass construction, cantilevered over a ravine. They were designed by noted 20th Century architects A. James Speyer and David Haid.

I always was a big fan of the movie and love seeing that house everytime I drive by it in Chicago’s nw suburb. I once read that the cars in the garage in the movie all were the owners of the home as he was a very wealthy man and collected cars and used the garage as a personal musuem. Can anybody attest to this?

Great movie. Was this house used in a vampire movie?

Great movie, but as far as the house goes, I would
rather buy a house on the South Side and keep most
of the cash.

If you have the means, I think its a great time to buy,as Ferris said, life is pretty short, if you dont look around sometimes, it will pass you by.

Does it come with the Ferrari?

You could probably build your dream house for that amount of cash. I would rather buy the Ghostbusters pad instead of this house.

RE:Garage Sale
That is true. The owner used to have antique car friends come get together once a year. My grandparents street would be lined with beautiful cars.

That movie was modeled after what I did in high school, but they couldn’t have released it PG or PG13 if they didn’t drastically change just enough so they didn’t have to pay (ROB) me. I had a rifle in my locker and one dumb maintenance guy gave up his entire set of keys so we made ourselves copies of the school master key, and went EVERYWHERE we weren’t supposed to.
I’m fuckin’ 420x cooler than you.

What’s the score?
Nothin’ nothin’.
Who’s winning?
… The Bears.
