Gilchrist, TX ‘Last House Standing’ Decorated for Holidays

By: Diane Tuman, Zillow Content Manager | December 16, 2008

Yes, Hurricane Ike plowed down nearly all of Gilchrist, TX this past September, except for one, yellow house that defied it. In another act of defiance and survival, the little yellow house is now decorated with Christmas lights, powered by a generator.

There is something so cool about christmas lights in unexpected places. There’s a house in my neighborhood in Seattle that decorates a tree in the patch between the road and the sidewalk with battery operated lights, so festive!

Kind of looks like ‘09 NAR membership. Oh… Snap!

I went by it today. Looks like they were having a Super Bowl party!

Right after the storm, the husband was talking like he might not fix it up. It took about a foot of water in the first story. It’s great to see he had a change of heart.
