Holiday Sweater Swagger
By: Diane Tuman, Zillow Content Manager | December 17, 2007

Guess what’s in vogue these days? Christmas Holiday sweaters. Yup. And the more outlandish, the better. Last week, we had a little Holiday Sweater event here at Zillow and for regular readers of this blog, you’ll know that if there is an event to dress up for, watch out. Obviously, Halloween is our favorite time of year. So, for this event, even the most macho men donned bright, garish sweaters adorned with snowmen, Christmas trees and snowflakes. That’s a brave man, I tell you! Lots of people were not afraid to wear a silly little sweater for a day of laughs and loosening up as we head into the holidays.

To choose the ultimate winner of the Holiday Sweater showdown, we all did a little runway walk, à la Project Runway (Tim Gunn kinda grows on you, in a weird way) and the winner was… drumroll: A tie between the Mortgages Project Manager Nate Moch (the mustache for kids guy), on the left in the photo, and Jeff Lubetkin, Mortgages Product Team Lead. Hey, I’m seeing a weird theme here. The mortgage PM and PTL both tied for the Holiday Sweater title. Could there be something in the water in whatever the Zillow mortgages product is becoming?

It’s sad when in your “Holiday Sweater Swagger” article you find yourself having to cross out Christmas for fear of a few idiots, now what we can’t celebrate a holiday and call just what it really is because it offends the atheist? Well I am offended by the fact that they don’t believe in Christmas, but you won’t find me complaining about it, who gives a rat’s ass, let them believe or not believe what they want it’s all the same to me, but this season is Christmas all over the world and that inclused America. Deal with it!

Yeah!

Im offended that you crossed out Christmas. You mention Christmas tree a little further down. I guess Holiday tree doesn’t sound as good to you? Im so freakin tired of people being overly concious about offending a minority of people. You would rather offend the greater majority than god forbid offend the lessor minority. Probably 80% of us believe in Christ 20% dont. I say don’t cross out Christ anymore. It’s not Xmas, its not Holiday, it is CHRISTmas.

Ditto!!

I concurr. You better revise the article and put CHRISTMAS back in it.
Merry Christmas to all at Zillow. If you don’t celebrate Christmas, that’s your problem. Majority rule.

I absolutely agree - your PC-paranoia is ridiculous. Don’t be such wimps.
Merry CHRISTmas!!

I’m disappointed that you all seem to be so narrow-minded. Not everyone is Christian and celebrates Christmas — and that’s a fact that should be acknowledged. A Christmas tree IS a Christmas tree; but I would hope that anyone who wants to wear a sweater relating to another of the December holidays would be welcome to. And, for that to happen, word should go out to wear Holiday sweaters. How UNCHRISTIAN to deny others the freedom to believe as they choose. Live and let live. How could another’s way of honoring God affect you?? Remember, Jesus was Jewish, AND so was Mary!

I am offended by the fact that people are offended. If anyone finds this offensive, I’ll be offended that they’re offended that I’m offended by their being offended that you didn’t use the word “Christmas” for fear of offending people.
I hope I’ve made myself clear.
Happy !

If it’s a “holiday” sweater….which “holiday” is it??
Bob S. on December 17, 2007 11:21 pm
My Jewish friends wish me “Merry Christmas,” and I wish them “Happy Hanukkah.” Nobody is offended. We all love and understand one another. The ACLU and other radicals especially hate Jesus, but they want to get rid of all religion, not just Christmas.
The people are offended by the word Christmas are offended because they ACLU and their buddies TOLD them to be offended.
Do you think we should stop our patriotic celebrations on the 4th of July because it might offend some immigrant?
Merry CHRISTmas!

Well there was the option of wearing a holiday sweater representative of whatever holiday you happen to observe, hanukka, qwanza, chrismakha, christmas, what the heck ever. Seriously, it is unfortunate that when you have an open forum you have to be politically correct but we as a society have created that exact kind of climate. It is a bit ridiculous but it is what it is

This is fantastic. Love the sweaters and the contest, brilliant and funny. The comments so far are kinda ridiculous,no? Couldn’t most people tell that the word ‘Christmas’ had a strike through as laugh?! Otherwise the word would have just been removed and replaced with ‘Holiday’. It;s not like it would have been difficult, there’s no whiteout or correction fluid that was needed … they would have just hit the delete key! Well, I guess I may be assuming too much here, like, they did this on a computer and not a mimeograph machine! Yeeash. Why are overly religious people so damn dumb … and importantly … humorless.
I love the holidays … ALL of them.

Hey Everybody: As Maggie writes above, the Christmas word strike-through was meant as a joke because there is such PC anxiety around it. So, apologies if my post was misinterpreted. I am Catholic, I celebrate Christmas with my family, I have a Christmas tree, and we sing Christmas Carols. But, I don’t like to exclude. So, for others who celebrate their beliefs/spiritual direction/religion around this time of the year, I wish you a Merry/Happy [fill-in-the-blank]!

Wow, tough room. Where’d the Christmas spirit go? The PC approach to “Christmas” is ridiculous; thanks for ridiculing it for us Diane!
