Want to rent a place where Elizabeth Taylor once spent time? This Miami Beach estate belongs to the family of Taylor’s former fiancé, William Pawley Jr. and now it’s available for rent for $50,000 a month.
Before the weddings, two Academy Awards, and her role in “Cleopatra,” film icon Taylor was engaged to Pawley, the son of successful business man and ambassador to Brazil. The two met in Florida in 1949 where Taylor’s family had a vacation home; Taylor was 17, Pawley was 28.
Taylor spent quite some time on Pawley’s estate during their six-month engagement. While the luxurious home is currently for rent, it will soon hit the Miami Beach real estate market for $13.9 million, listing agent Jill Eber told the Sun-Sentinel. Another piece of Taylor history should hit the market as well; Taylor’s love letters to Pawley will be auctioned off by a New Hampshire auction house in two months. The hand-written notes span their entire engagement and detail Taylor’s daily life in L.A. as well as her love for Pawley — her first fiancé.
“I’ve never known this kind of love before — it’s so perfect and complete—and mature,” she wrote in one of the letters. “I’ve never loved anyone in my life before one-third as much as I love you.”
The home where Taylor and Pawley’s love affair started is an oceanfront property on Lake Avenue in Miami Beach, FL. The 9-bedroom, 9-bath home spans 150-feet of waterfront. At a full 9,100 sq ft, the home also includes a master suite with sitting room, his-and-her baths and closets, and a homekeeper suite with full bath. Built in 1941, the home was updated in 2009 and includes a modern kitchen and breakfast nook. Outside, the home has a south-facing heated pool, spa and detached cabana or guest house that includes a living room, full bathroom, and additional room that can be used as an office. The property is over three-quarters of an acre and has lush, mature palm trees.
Taylor and Pawley never married. According to Inside Edition, studio execs put pressure on Taylor to keep the relationship under wraps and wanted her to date famous football player Glenn Davis. Taylor’s first marriage was to Conrad (“Nicky”) Hilton Jr., heir to the hotel chain.
