Home Raffled off Successfully in Austria

I love stories like this — creative home sellers stretching the real estate rules to catch a buyer’s eye. From $10 auctions to a word scramble contest to eBay bids for homes, people keep coming up with even more inventive ways to maximize the exposure of their homes. While we typically feature homes for sale in the U.S., folks over in Austria are no less motivated to close a deal. A luxury villa in southern Austria was recently raffled off after sitting on the market for about a year. Owner Traude Daniel sold 9,999 tickets priced at euro99 ($128) that sold out within days in early December to raise nearly euro990,000 ($1,280,000). According to an unnamed source, the home had an estimated value of $1 million and now belongs to Walter Egger, an Austrian.

I think it’s great that they came up with an auction idea but, what if the did’nt sell all those tickets…??? the drawing needs to take place no matter what.. and they would have just sold for what ever # of sold tickets?

It’s funny how your mind instantly goes to “what if they didn’t sell the tickets?”. Mine did as well. I think the free press these little contests tend to get is all they really need.
