Despite the economy, “Bob” of Beryl Drive in Pittsburgh continues to go all out with his Christmas/holiday decorations, using 210,000 lights, 27 inflatables, 5.5 miles of extension cord, and a loop of 13 songs. And, before anyone starts grousing about the definition of spirit, or how he could’ve used his money, let’s just be clear: we all have choices. It’s his money, his house, and this is his choice. And, he says people in the Pittsburgh area are lifted by his effort to entertain. And, yes, his neighbors even love it. But, if Bob needs to be greener, here’s an article on saving energy on holiday lights. To see Bob’s house “in action,” click on the photo above (or below) to see Bob’s work (song by Jethro Tull).

Here are more individual homes and neighborhoods that bring on the spirit. Some are current and some are past, but they are all worth a quick look. Warning: You will be sick of hearing the Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s Wizards in Winter.

Extreme Holiday Homes

Notable: This house is across from a retirement home where many of the residents look forward to each year’s lights display, which is now going 18 years strong.

8047 Winding Creek Cr, Mason, OH 45040

Notable: Miller Lite used this home for its 2006 holiday commercial. A traffic accident near this home forced the light show to “retire” in 2006, but it’s the house everyone considers to be the standard for techno-lights displays.

Diane, the Zillow redesign launched in the last day or so is TERRIBLE. Not because it’s new and different, but because it’s TERRIBLE.

Home Q&A for a given property is now apparently mixed into a general discussion area for an entire region (possibly the whole state?).

The “old” design in place a few days ago was much, much better.

Leave regional/state-wide discussions in regional/state-wide buckets, and leave discussions on a specific property in the bucket for that property.

Additionally, when the Q&A topics appear in the regional discussion areas, there is no indication of the address for which the Q&A is addressed. For example, if someone asks “How long has this house been on the market?” there’s no way to determine to which house the comment refers.

The site’s usefulness has dropped significantly.

Please undo this TERRIBLE change to the site.

    Hi DebtFree,
Thanks for your feedback on the new Advice section. We aren’t going to roll-back the feature to what was there before. This is because there are some big improvements like a better search, being able to tie discussions and Q&A to a region, not just a house, and email subscriptions to name a few. However, we are working as I type now to address some of the problems you pointed out especially around home Q&A and other problems pointed out by other members of the Zillow Community. It will take us a few weeks to get them all in place.

Hopefully with the fixes and some time, the new feature set will grow on you.
    Cheers,
    Kristin Acker (of Zillow)

I’ve heard some of the power bills on these display’s can run up to $10,000 per month. A little bit overkill in my opinion, but it’s still nice to be in the christmas frame of mind.
