2321 Castilian Dr, Los Angeles CA
For sale: $8,395,000
The Vatican will likely never be for sale, but a home with a small connection to the Pope’s palace is.
This L.A. home was designed to look like an Italian villa, complete with sourced Italian materials and murals painted by the same artist who worked on the Vatican renovation.
After the home construction was finished, Florentine painter Antonio D’Atellis and his three assistants stayed at the home for six months.
“The owner gave them a blank canvas,” said listing agent Joe Babajian of Rodeo Realty. “[D’Atellis] painted the house completely based on how he was inspired.”
D’Atellis’ artwork contributes to the overall sense of the home, a feeling, explained Babajian, that you could never be bored in the home.
“There is always new detail that will come to attention,” he said.
These details attracted a number of celebrity renters over the year, ranging from entertainer RuPaul and singer Geri Haliwell (Ginger Spice) to country superstar couple Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert, who stayed most recently for 18 months through 2012 and 2013.
The home offers 5 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms over a span of 9,000 square feet of living space. Each room in the house has access to an outdoor patio or balcony, with views of the “extravagant” half-acre grounds.
