Smack dab in the middle of suburban Houston, surrounded by a few cul-de-sacs of tract housing, an unusual Moroccan-style home built to palace proportions is for sale.
This week’s home: Moroccan-style Palace
For sale: $8.9 million
Location: Briarforest, Houston, TX
Year built: 2005
Details: 8 bedrooms, 9 bathrooms, 19,668 square feet, 3.8-acre plot
This enormous home, listed on the Briarforest real estate market, was designed for the current homeowner. The interiors, in particular the Moorish tiles, were designed and created by international Moroccan architectural firm Arabesque Inc. Other works of arabasque can be seen in a number of private homes, as well as the Metropolitan Museum in New York and the Brunei Royal Palace. Headquartered in D.C. and Morocco, the firm designs and installs one-of-a kind tile mosaics, carved plaster and brass and furniture. This Houston home has been dressed to the nines in intricate tiled floors, mosaic-patterned ceilings and walls as well as hand-crafted plaster and wood furniture.
More of a compound than a traditional home, the property includes two free-standing, two-story guest houses, a pool and cabana. The home’s entrance is accented by a large curving driveway and fountain as well as an enormous walled courtyard. The final over-the-top luxury feature? A private petting zoo — animals not included.
The listing is held by JoLynn McIntyre of Doug English Properties.
