Larry Hagman’s ‘Dallas’ Memorabilia Being Auctioned from Ojai Ranch
Actor Larry Hagman, best known for his role as Texas oil baron J.R. Ewing in the 1980s TV show “Dallas,” is not only selling his hilltop home in Ojai, CA but many of the home’s furnishings—including some of Hagman’s collectibles—as well.
The Beverly Hills auction, hosted by Julien’s Auctions, features Hagman’s modern art and antique furnishings, as well as collectibles from “Dallas” including monogrammed cowboy boots, cowboy hats worn on the show and a “Dallas” script, estimated to be worth between $200 and $800. Items from Hagman’s mother, actress Mary Martin, will also be available for bidding. The auction runs from May 23 through June 3, with the live auction on June 4.
Although Hagman presided over a Texas ranch on “Dallas,” off the TV set he lived on a luxurious California ranch that’s on the Ojai real estate market for $8,450,000. Currently, median Ojai home values are $440,400.
Hagman’s 43-acre property perches on top of a hill with dramatic views of the valley and hills below and features resort-like amenities. The seven-bedroom, 10-bath stucco and stone main home was built in 1991. The home takes advantage of the sprawling views and California sunshine with floor-to-ceiling windows, an open-floor plan, and an al fresco dining area. Green amenities include solar panels and on-site wells.
Also featured on Hagman’s expansive property: an indoor pool and grotto, an outdoor pool and spa, a helicopter pad for easy access off the ranch, and the final touch, a full avocado-tree orchard.
Hagman is planning on downsizing and is moving to a smaller home in Los Angeles while he works on the upcoming remake of the “Dallas” TV series.
The listing is held by agent Nancy Kogevinas of Prudential Real Estate.
