Manhattan Has a New Park: The High Line

Something interesting is happening on the lower West Side of Manhattan, in the Chelsea section — a new park was built. Called “The High Line,” the park was constructed in two sections. The first section — which opened on Tuesday — runs from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District to West 20th Street, between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues. Section two is slated to open in 2010.
The area where the High Line was built was actually an old, elevated railroad track that was used for the meatpacking district. It now has been transformed into a beautiful park that actually sits three stories above ground level. Now open to the public, it provides beautiful scenery and a wonderful new escape. If you don’t feel like taking a train to Central Park or don’t feel like going downtown to Washington Square, or just looking for some new, take a stroll down to “The High Line.”

I don’t think thats its unattractive, I think that it has just been planted and needs to just have a chance to grow and then it could be something really spectacular.

Ok the overhead shot doesn’t make it look so good but I think it is great, designed to get people exercising anyway with the layout like that and perhaps Chris is right and the homeless trannys would have been an attraction but where would you put them??

Perhaps that is why is called the High Line because of all the people who used to use the space? Could that be possible? I guess turning it into a park that will be used is better than leaving it as a space to “use”!
