Most Expensive Sale of Single-Family Residence This Year?
By: Diane Tuman, Zillow Content Manager | July 14, 2009
The Aspen Times reported today that a home in Aspen CO sold for $43 million — making it “… the largest sale of a single-family residence in the country so far in 2009.”
It was reportedly a straight cash deal from a buyer who became interested in the property at the end of last year’s ski season and eventually negotiated a deal. The property was not formally listed for sale.
The house at 421 Willoughby Way has 21,477 square feet of total heated area, including nine bedrooms and 13 bathrooms, according to records at the Pitkin County Assessor’s office. The assessor’s appraisal for 2009 placed the actual value of the property at $50.31 million.

Amazing! It’s ironic that the most expensive residential sale was on a property that wasn’t even listed for sale. Down here in Miami, 500k+ condos are hard to move.

Its simply amazing that a property which was actually not for sale and hence it got the highest price for a single family residence. I doubt that if this property had been for sale it wouldn’t get anywhere close to this which he has got now.

I think that is wonderful. I think there is someone for every home on the market. The trick is to find that person or in this case, they found the home before it was on the market.
