Only in Baltimore: A Waterfall Between Two Row Houses
By: Alison Paoli, Zillow PR Specialist | May 15, 2009
Where there is an empty space, there is opportunity, at least in Baltimore.
The City of Baltimore’s Office of Promotion and the Arts recently launched a new Flicker-based Web site titled Baltimore Infill Survey to encourage its residents to submit ideas for what to do with vacant lots around the city. The ideas ranged from realistically pleasant to downright wacky. Contributors are asked to download a stock photo from the Web site and upload it back to the site once the idea is graphically added to the photo.
The Baltimore Sun recently highlighted one of the more interesting, yet unrealistic ideas — a waterfall between two sets of row houses.

According to the Sun:
The Infill Survey itself was not intended to lead directly to development of specific sites, though the city’s housing department has logged about 30,000 abandoned structures and lots. The city owns nearly a third of them, and officials say they recognized that many are dilapidated, fire and safety hazards and harmful to residents’ quality of life. They have been taking steps to redevelop abandoned sites, or green and beautify them.
Baltimore is the Greatest City in America, so let’s go Hons and add your ideas!

It looks like a teenager or art student has been playing with photoshop.
But that is a very interesting idea. It shows that instead of keeping wastelands in big cities (not just Baltimore), if we let artists feel the void, nice projects will embellish our cities.

It might have looked better as a garden with flowers and trees-maybe a small fountain.
