Support your Community Apartment Watch
Just like a Neighborhood Watch, an Apartment Watch is a band of citizen patrols that look out for each other and the community. They report suspicious activities to the police and help increase crime awareness in the community. While normally, Apartment Watches are started by residents, this doesn’t mean you can’t lend a helping hand and support them.
Apartment Watches also benefit property managers as well. For instance, reduced crime rates help maintain or boost property values and also is more appealing to prospective renters. Therefore, Apartment Watches are your friend, and there are ways you could help support them in their efforts in keeping a safer apartment community.
Give them a space to meet.
If your community areas are busy, it might be hard for your Apartment Watch to find a space to have meetings. These groups usually don’t meet very often—sometimes they decide on once per month or quarterly. Offer them a standing reservation in one of your community spaces so they won’t struggle to find a place to host their meetings.
Feature them in your newsletter.
Offer the Apartment Watch some real estate in your newsletter. They could utilize this space to reach out to the entire community to inform them of who’s on the committee, how they can join, and how they can stay safe.
Listen to them.
If the Apartment Watch brings up suggestions on how to improve safety, don’t just blow them off. They might bring up some important maintenance issues such as a dead security light bulb. Listen to them and move quickly on maintenance issues regarding security.
