The RentJuice Insider: Meet Jennifer Wong, Customer Engagement Manager
There’s something about talking to and helping people that’s extremely rewarding. After years of working as an engineer, Jennifer (a.k.a. “Jenn”) Wong felt unfulfilled and decided she wanted something more than just dealing with inanimate objects. Although she wanted to continue to work with technology, she also wanted to help people.
Wong found the perfect balance of the two when she joined the Rentjuice team as a Customer Engagement Manager.
Read about Wong’s experience with RentJuice and learn about why she’s obsessed with cats.
Q: What’s your story about joining the RentJuice team?
I decided after living in New York for five years that I wanted to come back to the San Francisco Bay Area. So I quit working for a company that did group and event organization online.
While I was applying for jobs, the first thing about RentJuice that appealed to me was the site design. After dealing with renting in New York City, I had a lot of interest in rentals because it was really terrible over there.
I had a phone conversation with Richard, and we just clicked. We talked about ideas on how things can be made better for renters. It was a really good conversation. Then I met with David and saw a really great looking product. It showed RentJuice was really going somewhere.
Q: What did you think about the product?
RentJuice has a very unique product. I think the design of it is great.
Another thing that’s cool is that we take into account a lot of customer requests and recommendations. Having been at a tech company, many of them just ignored feature requests from customers. We don’t do that here. If it benefits our customers, we’ll make it.
Q: What do you like about being a Customer Engagement Manager?
I like working as a Customer Engagement Manager because you get to work with the same people over and over. You really get to know them. When you make them happy, it’s a satisfying feeling.
Q: What do you like about working at this company?
I like being in a space where you’re surrounded by nerds. (laughs) Just kidding, I mean smart and technical people. It really gives me the chance to ask questions and learn from my coworkers. I think that’s super cool.
Q: What’s the most memorable customer conversation you’ve had?
One of our customers fell in love with our product. We just loved e-mailing and talking to her. In one conversation, she started raving about the product and she compared it to driving a Mercedes because it’s “sleek and elegant.”
Q: What’s your favorite RentJuice moment?
Prank day. (April 1st)
We did a prank with cups of water on several people’s desks and David’s office. We covered people’s desks and filled David’s desk with cups of water. It takes a long time to empty out the water, so it traps you because you can’t get into your office or onto your desk.
That day, I knew my coworkers were awesome, because they could take a joke. They even turned it on me and put cups of water on my desk.
Q: Your coworkers say you like cats. What’s up with your cat obsession?
Not too long ago, I hadn’t lived with a cat or ever had one. I had the same stereotypes about cats that everyone else does. But, when people told me about Lolcats, I thought it was hilarious. Then I adopted my own cat, which brought my interest in cats and Lolcats to a whole ‘nother level.
Q: What do you like to do when you’re not at work?
I’m typically biking to places where I can eat some delicious new food or drink some tasty beer.
Q: What’s one thing your coworkers don’t know about you?
