Rocco’s Sponsor is Homebuilder WCI… But, There’s More
By: Diane Tuman, Zillow Content Manager | June 17, 2008
Yesterday, I’m sure a portion of the 90 minutes workers spend surfing on the job was spent watching the incredible finish to the U.S. Open between Rocco Mediate and Tiger Woods. Tiger’s wardrobe was splashed with Nike while Rocco’s sponsorships are with Callaway and homebuilder WCI.
In a rather ironic twist, CNBC’s Darren Rovell reported that struggling WCI sold Tuscany Reserve, a posh community development in Naples, Florida, to foreign investors. The irony is that Rocco lives in Tuscany Reserve. Homes were originally supposed to sell for $2 to $5 million, but with a down market, some homes are going for less than $1 million. Here’s a Tuscany home for $1.59 million. So, not only did Rocco lose to Tiger, but he’s in a development fighting lawsuits and countersuits while home values around him are taking a hit. A very weird week for Rocco.
