Songwriter and former “American Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi has listed her Studio City home for $7.995 million. DioGuardi purchased the home in 2007 and completed a full update on the French chateau-style house.

“It hadn’t been touched in many years,” said listing agent Blair Chang of The Agency, who co-lists the home with Andrea Korchek of Wish Sotheby’s International Realty.

“She did a top to bottom renovation; she tore it back to the studs and rebuilt the whole house,” Chang said.

DioGuardi set about restoring the home, creating a property that is “loaded with beautiful architecture,” Chang said.

The end result was a house that retains its historic details yet has a “modern edge,” explained Chang.

Calacatta marble, beamed, vaulted ceilings, a crystal chandelier and herringbone-patterned walnut floors are just some of the finishes present in DioGuardi’s home.

One of the most appealing features of the home, especially for a celebrity songwriter, is its location. Set at 11400 Sunshine Terrace, Studio City, CA 91604, the home is on 3 acres behind a high pair of gates. With residents like Miley Cyrus and George Clooney, Studio City is a welcome option for celebrities looking for a neighborhood a little less densely populated than Beverly Hills.

“You come up this driveway, [and] you feel you’re in another world,” Chang said. “It’s private and self-contained; you don’t feel like you’re in Los Angeles.”

As a songwriter who has collaborated with everyone from Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera to Cobra Starship and Carrie Underwood, DioGuardi has long split her time between her home in Los Angeles and her property in Maine.

However, as DioGuardi spends more time in Maine, she’s decided to let go of her Studio City retreat, Chang said.

According to Zillow’s mortgage calculator, a monthly payment on DioGuardi’s home would be $28,846, assuming a 20 percent down payment on 30-year mortgage.
