The Shadow Knows — It’s the Google Street View Car
By: Diane Tuman, Zillow Content Manager | January 21, 2009
I was checking out Zillow’s home value on my father’s house in Amsterdam, NY and in the Google Street View, I saw a weird, black something-or-other on the front lawn (top photo) and thought it was probably a bumper or a piece of someone’s car that fell off and landed there. Not surprising — especially during cold winters in upstate NY when potholes appear and can take the chassis out of a vehicle. Funny that the Google Street View picked it up, I thought.
Upon closer inspection, it was actually the shadow of the Google Street View car that drives around, capturing, well, street views.
So, if you see this Google car driving around your hood, don’t do this. Here are some funny Google Street View bloopers.

Ah good old Google, always good for a chuckle or two. Kind of amazes me why they even pursue this street view thing, it is somewhat cool but how practical?
