One of the first movie stars, Gloria Swanson was arguably one of the first true divas of Hollywood as well, going through several marriages and affairs—her most significant was with the father of John F. Kennedy, Joseph Kennedy. She embraced her fame, and was quoted as saying “I have decided that when I am a star, I will be every inch and every moment a star.”

Swanson appeared in several silent movies throughout the ’20s and ’30s but is probably best known for her Oscar-nominated role as a forgotten silent film star in the movie “Sunset Boulevard.”

Two of Swanson’s former homes are currently on the California real estate market— one in San Clemente and one in the Silverlake area of Los Angeles.

418 Cazador Lane, San Clemente CA
For Sale $1,999,000

The listing describes this home as the “crown jewel of the original Pasadena Colony” historic district. As an official San Clemente landmark, this home was built in 1926 and housed stars, political celebrities, today’s sports superstars and former President Richard M. Nixon. Median San Clemente values hit at $575,000.

The three-bedroom, three-bath home includes a library with fireplace, full wet bar, and original Dutch doors throughout. French doors open to a sun-soaked patio, outdoor shower, waterfall and pond and ocean views. The property has the option to be a high-end vacation rental as well.

2401 Effie St, Los Angeles CA
For Sale: $1,900,000

Listed on the Silverlake real estate market, this property has been converted from a single family home—once occupied by Swanson— to four units with two guest houses. The home sits on top of a hill with 360 degree views of downtown Los Angeles on over one acre.

Part of the 1920s charm is still slightly evident in this home with its two roof decks, curved brick entrance and fountains.
