With Most Election Results In, Did Housing Play a Role in Voters’ Decision?
Earlier this month, we broke out housing data by Congressional district, and our chief economist Stan Humphries analyzed several hot races (courtesy of NBC’s political team) in which incumbents were running to determine whether home values were playing a role in voter preference. So, what happened in those districts? All but three have flipped (District 8 in Arizona is currently too close to call).
While home values may not have been the number one issue on voter’s minds this election cycle, as the Seattle PI wrote, “they certainly play a big part in how well off we feel.. and that’s a huge factor in any election, particularly this one.”
What do you think? Were you surprised by Tuesday night’s results? How much, if at all, did the state of the housing market factor into your vote?
