Zillow All-Stars and Zillow Local Experts
By: Sara Bonert, Director of Broker Relations | July 20, 2009
On Zillow we like to bring attention to those who contribute the most to the Zillow community by awarding Zillow All-Star and Zillow Local Expert badges.
These badges appear on profile pages and can also be posted on other marketing efforts, such as a personal blog. People with these badges are also given better placement in the Zillow Professional Directory, with the idea that those who are the most helpful should get the best exposure opportunities on Zillow. This is in addition to the obvious benefit that comes with contributing more, which is getting to connect with more potential clients.
To help you learn more about become a Zillow All-Star and Local Expert, we’ve created two informational videos, starring Zillow All-Star Kristin Acker.
What is a Zillow All-Star? The All-Star badge is given to active Zillow users who share their real estate knowledge and help others by contributing high-quality content.
What is a Zillow Local Expert? Local Experts are active Zillow users who share their real estate knowledge at the local level.
So, make sure your listings are online, upload neighborhood photos and most of all, participate in Zillow Advice and earn your designation as being a helpful, knowledgable professional on Zillow.

I and my neighbors are curious. Why is it that Zillow.com rates a house in our neighbor hood as the most valuable, when it is clearly in disrepair, i.e, needs a new roof, deck ,exterior paint and repair, ect.
One neighbor just built a huge new house, you value at $547,000.The junker you rate at $782.000.
We just put in over $200.000 in repairs into our large house and it looks outstanding. you rate it at
$513.000. What gives. Sounds like serious lack of
correct home values as listed. How is it changed?

What are the qualifications needed to become a “Zillow Expert”?

I cannot comment on specific areas, but in my area, Alaska, sale prices are not disclosed publicly, so therefore Zillow, which is dependent on public records go by the tax assessed value. .and here they are all over the map, since the tax assessor relies on voluntary information.

There are no local experts in my area at all. Can you define the requirements a bit better? With 5000 agents in my area I would think there would be a few?

Local experts on Zillow are those that contribute a lot of local information to our site: listings, photos, participate in Advice. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to watch the video link above.
Participating in Zillow Advice is a great way to earn the designation and badge. If you want more information on this, check out this video link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tbf3QnfEGk

I am just curious how the realtors listed as local experts have far less contributions than do I and also have also been active on Zillow less amount of time than I have… As Zillow has stated above “those who are the most helpful should get the best exposure opportunities on Zillow”. Just curious what else determines these titles besides “those that are the most helpful” because clearly this statement is not accurately upheld. Further explaination of this determination would be appreciated. Thanks!
