My daughter attended Demarest for 7 years (K-6). We loved this school. The teachers and staff are open to communication and very responsive. Everyone involved at this school creates a warm inviting atmosphere. Parental involvement is very high.

My son has studied for 2 years at Demarest. Overall it is a good school. The teachers are doing their best with what they have. The downsides are that the music teacher has no classroom. There is no Spanish teacher due to the budget cuts kids have to watch movies in Spanish with no explanation. Breakfast and lunch programs are terrible food is nasty. Plan to pack your own food every day. Aftercare is pretty bad held by YMCA. Looks like most councellors have just finished an elementary school themselves! No discipline there. It is a zoo. But it is not Demarest's fault not sure who chooses an aftercare provider. As far as academics go I do not have any complaints.

I am very happy with the school and the way it is being run. I was worried about sending my daughter here but she is now in 1st grade and is doing very well. I have been happy with the teachers she has had so far. My only complaint is the lack of communication from the specialty teachers. But each time I had addressed that with the teacher but don't feel I should have to have been the one to reach out. But it's my daughter and I will do what is needed to help her grow in anyway that she needs. My biggest concern with the school is the lunch menu. I really hope they will do something about that soon. It's not the healthiest I've seen. I also am glad they have the before school breakfast program. It so helps us parents who work. It's sad that they had to cut down on the arts/phys ed classes in order to concentrate more on the academic and tested type classes. I think the education community should think about making the school day a little longer and allowing the kids the arts/culture classes that they enjoy. Just glad the school is doin well and it's rating has increased. Overall I am happy with the school.

I am a parent who does not know good English and with the help of google will show my anger to the director of this school. My son has made school here but never am not satisfied. before my son came to this school was high and exemplary results we bring. as the new director came this change because it's always managed to condemn as not to like school. condemn only this and the next child if left free this .. it only quarrel with it much more condemning is not like school. but we did not know where to talk about because they did not know English. has a year that is gone and I am satisfied with the school that has now been very polite and higher grades .. thanks god that was left out there ...I don` t like ...rey mother

Demarest is great school! My oldest son has been there for 4 years now and loves it there. He has had wonderful caring teachers. They have been easy to talk to and offer suggestions on how to improve his performance in school. He has received extra help (e.g. speech therapy and tutorial for the NJ ASK) and has done well. My daughter is in kindergarten now and just loves going to school. We are lucky to have the full day program --- a big help for working parents! Mrs. Todaro the principal is great. She is always out there to make sure the kids are safe. Under her leadership I think Demarest school will get even better.

This is an exceptional school. The teachers are excellent the principal seems to be a caring person and very concerned about the overall expectation of each child. You can contact her at any time and she is always there to listen to your concerns. I lived in New York City all my life and lived in many other states and my children love this school like no other. Bullying is not tolerated in this school and the children are so well behaved and polite.

I can't believe that Demarest only has a rank of 4 out of 10. Both of my children go here and I couldn't be happier with the school faculty and the programs/activities. I suppose the rank is based mostly on standardized test scores but there's more to learning than just one big test every year! The half-day kindergarten program is a little weak but all the grades after that are top-notch. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this school.

My daughter came from a private school to Demarest and I though that the change was going to be difficult but the teachers and the principal has made it easy for her to adapt. My daughter enjoys going to school at Demarest. The only cavoit I have is with the afterschool program. It is sponsored by Montclair YMCA and they only accept monthly membership of $220 for aftercare and $100 per month for before care. Some parents may need this service for an hour or several days a week and the cost is steep. The cost is literally the same for private school.

I presently have 2 children that attend Demarest. This school is amazing and the teachers are AWESOME! They go above and beyond their duties. I love that there are so many extracurricular activities the children can participate in. I also love that the children take so many 'special' classes. I couldn't ask for a better school for my children I just wish there was a full day kindergarten program!

Demarest has surpassed my expectations as a good elementary school. The community of teachers parents and principal are supportive and welcoming. I am further impressed by the extracurricular activities offered and the opportunities for the children to take on extra learning. At the first HSA meeting the parents - leaders were helpful and encouraged feedback and suggestions from the parent body. The teachers that I have encountered are respected and seem to care deeply about the child's emotional well being as well as how they fare educationally. A positive experience from the start.

This is an excellent school. They offer magnet programs for 3-6 grades. The only disadvantage is there is no morning care (7am) for working parents. However there is aftercare.

All three of my children have gone to this school since Kindergarten. They enjoy going and seem to like most of the teachers. They have a lot of friends and always welcome the new children to the school.

Excellent school with wonderful leadership! The principal puts the safety and well being of the children and their families first. The teachers are caring well educated and work well together as a group. I know my children are safe and happy at this school!
