I attended Hayden High School from 7th grade up until the middle of 11th grade. I left to pursue a home-school education. During the years I attended this school I encountered many disturbing things that children of that age group should not be exposed to. The teacher's idea of teaching was making the children do all the work and read from the book. They should not be called teachers as they did not make an effort to actually teach. I have moved out of the state as my children will never attend the Alabama School District I am highly unsatisfied with my experiences from the Blount County School District. If you want your child to learn and grown their minds please find another school.

This school does not have many elective choices for the kids. Some of the older teachers need to be let go with there can careless attitude. Kids don't have much homework assigned. Foreign language classes are a computer lab with a teacher(babysitter) no verbal communication. This school does not offer much guidance to the achieve high learning after graduation. The school offers less advanced classes each year for the excelling student. Graduating teens are not well prepared for college. When we first moved here it was a great school. As the years progress so has the school system.
The school is okay but not the best if your child has college aspirations. They do very little to steer students on the college path. One of my daughters was taking advanced math so she would be able to take calculus as a senior but the school decided not to continue calculus since the students did so poorly in it. That doesn't sound like the right solution... how about improving your lower math classes to better prep the students? Or at least set up a dual enrollment program so excelling students can take advanced courses at a local college while still in high school. There are few extracurricular activities aside from those centered around the football team. I'm not sure this is a very good school for college bound kids.
it is a great school tthe staff is willing to help you and the office staff was there to help in anyway they could phone calls were returned quickly. very nice campus. the staff was down to earth.Band teacher is great he always willing to help and took the time to talk to you. My child was enrolled of a local country for many years. the staff was hard to work with. I was so glad that he came to Hayden The school teacher and staff have it hard with all the rules it hard folr them to focus teaching and care but Hayden has it keep of the good work
This school hosted a band competition and leaves a lot to be desired as far as being a host school goes! We have been to MANY and this one is the worst!! They DO NOT have close to enough seating to host an event like this and as far as bathrooms go do you have 20 minutes to wait?? They had a few indoor and then just 4 port a potties unbelievable!! Just all around an uncomfortable experience. Add some more bathrooms and seating if you plan to host again please.
I Have an 8th grader at Hayden High this year and I'm not so impressed with the administration they need to remember that the 8th graders are not as responsible as the students that should actually be in a high school (9th -12) so they do need a little more help. The Blount County School Board needs to re think there absentee Doctor excused policy!
I have an 8th grader at Hayden High this year and so far we have had a positive experience.Hayden is a close and caring community and we love it. Teacher's care about the kids and my kids love the teacher's as do I.
Hayden has a awsome band program. So if your looking for a school with a prestigous band program then Hayden is the place to go.
I have one child at HMS. The teachers have been extremely helpful. My child has been diagnosed with ADD and the school has been extremely helpful. The Assistant Principal is wonderful
Hayden is not good at sports but have a good wrestling team thats about it but overall its pretty nice
I go to hayden and personally I think its great.I of course dont like it but from a parents perspective it would be a good thing Hayden is very concerned for a students education and can be very strict
Hayden is a great school with great teachers. 2 responses to prior comments first the one posted on Feb. 26. Every sentence has a grammar error in it. The first sentence doesn't even have correct noun usage (sports not sport). The person doesn't even know that a proper noun like Hayden has to be capitalized as exhibited in the second sentence. The third sentences shows that person can't even spell princiPAL (not princiPLE wrong usage) correctly so they're probably not the most intelligent person on the planet. The second comment I will respond to is Alex G. The ADD is self-diagnosed and it's not the school's job to deal with learning conditions that aren't MEDICALLY confirmed. Anyone who says Hayden is a bad place to learn is either grinding an axe stupid or blind.
I think Hayden High School is one of the best school's around my son started there in the 7th grade from Tarrant and i think that was the best move I have ever made for him. I don't think I could have picked a better school and a better community to raise my son in I want to say 'THANK YOU' Hayden High School and all the friends I have made since we moved here. I love each and everyone in the community and ' MAY GOD BLESS US ALL.'
Hayden is not good for sport or kids. I have two kids at hayden. No help from the principle.
I recently attended Hayden and I have ADD. They did not take the time to help and make it more understandable in most classes. Other teachers were a lot better with my way of learning. I did end up dropping out to support a family that was started. Overall though I believe it is a good school to send your children to with the way of discipline and teachers. Alex G.
my boys have went to Hayden schools for 2 yrs now. I love all the teachers and staff that we have meet my only complaint is that my oldest who will be in 8th this year has no extra activities. unless you are a football player or cheerleader there is no other clubs or activities for him. they need to have clubs to join too.
I attended Hayden High School from ninth grade until I graduated this past spring. I must say that what I learned at Hayden has allowed me to be a more successful college student. While attending Hayden I had the opportunity to do dual-enrollment through Wallace State Community College. This gave me first hand experienced that helped me tremendously once I started the University of Alabama. Hayden made me a confident student and taught me how to study. I am happy to say that after a semester at one of the most prestigious colleges in the nation I have a 4.0 GPA.
Hayden High School is one of the best schools in this state. The academics are great. My child is an honors student and is a member of the band which she loves. Those parents that are involved do it at 100%. The school follows the guidelines that have been set. I feel that my child is safe and is getting a good education at this school. I am proud to say that my child attends Hayden High School.
My daughter graduated in May of 2005 she had special needs and they were always met. She has started college and is finding it boring because she is ahead of the other students. Thanks to good teachers she is excelling in college.
It is very sad that our children do not even have books that they are allowed to bring home to study from. We have new fields and new playgrounds yet not enough books. It is also sad that there are teachers that will tell your children to go on line for projects instead of actually explaining a project to them. I just finished printing this out for my 7th grader. Their are some of us that can not afford to be on line therefore we either have to use the gas to go use internet or our children have to use school time to do so.
