New York State Assessments (NYSA)

The new standards for proficiency in these subjects are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change. See http://www.engageny.org/sites/default/files/resource/attachments/test_score_release_letter_to_parents.pdf from New York's Commissioner of Education for more information on these changes. In 2013-2014 New York used the New York State Assessments to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English language arts and math, and in grades 4 and 8 in Science. At present 2013-14 results are available only for English language arts and math. The tests are standards-based, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of New York. The goal is for 90% of students to mee

The district while filled with great teachers does have some downsides. Like the review before mine I am not quite sure what they are referring to as advanced classes as there are not many offered. The district in my eyes has been on a steady downhill slope. Teachers administration and other staff use the district as a stepping stone and the administration has changed several times in the past four years that my child has attended the high school they have had three different principals alone! How can you have a school that runs well when administration isn't staying in the district? Also there are some teachers like mentioned that just do not care and this is an issue that needs to be fixed. When i choose to educate my children in this district nearly 12 years ago I viewed it as a fantastic district. But now I would not send another child to the district.

Canastota is quaint. There are some decent teachers here a few exceptional teachers and quite a few terrible teachers who have never cared or have at some point stopped caring about actually educating. I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about when it comes to advanced courses. There aren't many offered at all.

This was by far the best school I've ever been a substitute teacher in. No school is perfect but the staff and the students here were phenomenal along with a lot of courses available. I wish there was more in the town itself for teens to do. I moved to another city but I really miss the students.

This school is great for speical education and children who are excelled. If you have a child some where in between you'll notice the difference.

I am a parent of children who have gone to Canastota and they received an excellent education. I was particularly impressed with the advanced courses and the caring faculty. If you want a great education at a reasonable tax base canastota is for you
