This has got to be one of the worst schools ever. Instead of giving student report cards they give the students progress reports. Sometimes the teachers don't even put in all of the grades but then if there not putting in all of the grades now it seems as if your child is failing now isn't that crazy. The front office always have a lot of students in there doing the faculty job. I don't even know why they built this school.

I have had two duaughters graduated out of Erwin High School and I'm just proud to say that Van Phillips have really turn things around. One year at the parent teacher meeting he stood there and politely said to all teachers parents and students and he said if you are tired of teaching then stop but if you don't wont to teach then leave. He also came behind that and said that he asked God when he is tired of being a principal maybe he has something planned for him. But if you are here to teach then teach. That was the year when everything changed. Thank God! For that.

Mr.Phillips and Mrs.Genise Reid should be the only two principals. Some of the teachers and assistant principals are the problems at this school and I'm not excluding some of our children. Parents it start at home! If we can move the childish teachers and assistants our school will much better.

I graduated from Erwin in May of 2005. I attended Erwin from 5th grade until graduation. I love this school to death. I am filled with pride and still attend sporting events and represent my alma mater. However I felt cheated in my education. It is not 100% Erwin's fault. I blame most of it on Jefferson County Schools for not giving us the same funding and support given to the to be perfectly honest white schools in the county system when I went there. My Senior year was absolutely horrible. We were denied most priveliges of a high school that year i.e. a band pep rallies homecoming week... However if you want a strong spirited close knit group of individuals who will support each other for years to come after graduation you will not find it at a better school.

I went to Erwin from kindergarden all the way up to my mid senior year. It had its ups and downs but the key word here is had. This school as gotten so much better when i was there. I moved out of the district and they found out. Im now at MJHS and if i could go back to Erwin i would give anything to. Erwin is so much better than this school. I miss you Erwin!!!!- Shannon K. I'm a current student at Erwin High School and I do believe that the school is much better than it was maybe 4 years ago. I think that this rating on this website does not give Erwin enough praise. The parent involvement is tremendous now. I'm in the band and I've never seen that many parents at a concert in years. As for extracurricular activities are football team was 7-3 and our basketball team hasn't lost a game yet.

I gaduated from i left Erwin in 2007 and I think I left the school for the most part satisfied. I can say alot of bad things about this school but none of them would be about the quality of education I received. I feel as though I left with a very high quality of education and that anyone who comes to Erwin and studies hard but at the same time tries to stay out of trouble you can mantain a great education. As far as the teachers are concern they will only help those who they feel want to be helped they don't waste their time trying to discipline those who want to act foolishly which at times can be their down fall.

I graduated from Erwin in 2006. The school is a great school. Some people may feel like the education level is low or the teachers don't teach but I totally disagree. Erwin is a close knit family it's just up to you rather you want to be a part of it or not. Erwin is a great school and I would recommend it to parents. -Mark Cowart

I have attended Erwin since the 4th grade and I have to say this is not a good school. I feel the teachers do not care about you at all. They don't explain the things they just think you are suppose to know it. If a student talks then the teacher will say 'okay figure out how to do it on your on' and i feel that is wrong. Thank god I'm moving this year.

The principal is great! Some of the teachers try to help struggling students others could care less.

The principal has done a great job in turning the school around. Mr. Phillips has brought the extracurricular activities as well as academics around. I have attended Erwin for five years from 8th grade to 12th grade. Erwin was never really bad like it was depicted but it did have its problems. Mr. Phillips is working to solve these problems and he has already gotten some fixed. I am expecting great things from him and the school in the future. Stick around and you will see.

Erwin High School was never a bad school. We had a couple of problems that needed to be solved. Those problems have been solved now. To the parents who are taking their kids out of Erwin your kids are probably the ones who are causing the problems. When the new principle came along he restored Eagle pride and that is all Erwin needed. All students who are not passing it is their job to get the tutoring they need to pass. If the teacher is not willing then that teacher should be reported.

Erwin High School has an very good academic program. It is an very good school that has received a bad rap due to bad publicity from people outside of the district. My children have gone to this school for 12 years and I will still recommend it to other parents. The teachers and counselors are caring and work hard at putting students first. The District has placed many new teachers at Erwin and a new principal but they should only enhance the quality of the school. This school is in an excellent neighborhood and is a credit to the Jefferson County (Alabama) School District. I am still proud to have my child attend Erwin High School and will continue to recommend it to other families. The Jefferson County District is now fully standing behind the school and it's personnel to make it one of the best in the District.

Finally Erwin High as a new principal. I suspect that the overall quality of the school is getting better already. The new leader has an exceptional record. I am looking forward to a new beginning and a great senior year. He is motivational straight forward and displays extreme care for the students. As for the teachers look out hope you got your ducks in a row. To all you bad apples including students and teachers good riddance! For the comment on city kids being slow this is far from the truth. The learning ability depends on the individual as well as the skill of teaching.

My grandaughter attends this school and she has not been taught. The school tells the parent that they are not allowed to reteach students because they have to follow the guidelines. This is ridiculous! If the child is not learning what kind of sense does this make? My grandaughter is failing and no one cares!!

I am a parent that moved to the area in 1998 with 2 children. Relocating to the area was a choice of quality education my children. I had 1 child to attend an alternative school and the other child to enroll at Erwin and is still currently attending. My first hand experience has made me realize that this school system wasn't at all that it was made up to be. The teachers from the very beginning treated black students different. The children were labeled as being slow with behavior problems. After trying to stay involved and interact with both students and teachers I observed the racial issues as some things and some people never change. The academics would be excellent if the teachers cared whether the children were learning or not parent involvement may increase if the staff even noticed you standing there and extra activities there are none!

Erwin has come up in the past months to spit the fact few bad apples are giving the school a bad rap. there were many fights at the school in the beginning of the 2004-2005 school year. They are trying to improve but the educational skills still lack.I am a student and feel that the others are interupting my learning however I will be leaving the school because I refuse to graduate from the school. But overall it isn't the only school with bad apples.

Just like every school there are your good students and your bad students. I think that the school is getting a bad rap because some people have not instilled any values or morales into their children. I will have to say that had my children not already graduated I would probably have to move them into another shcool not because of the schoool or it's staff but because the quality of education is lacking due to the fact that so many of the kids that are at EHS now came from city schools and they are so far behind that it holds everyone else back.
