I have worked in many Catholic schools throughout Chicago and the North Shore. St Josaphat is an outstanding academic environment and ranks right at the top. The principal Assistant principal teachers and help staff are highly professional but also warm and very caring and very child oriented individuals. They strive to reach high academic standards as well as teaching and building good moral character. Dr.Katherine Boho Clinical Psychologist.

I have 2 children at SJS. We LOVE the school and the teachers are fantastic. I was sorry to see the negative posts about the principal but am not in a position to comment since she isn't my boss. But the school is incredibly well-run with tremendous staff teachers and families all invested in the well-being of the students. In response to the negative pre-k 3 posts my son was in the class with the parents who complained the 3 year olds didn't have enough structure in the classroom and pulled their child from the class. Really? I was just happy to know he loved school behaved well learned a few letters and shapes and had fun. But I guess I'm not planning for his ivy league entrance exams 15 years from now.

St. Josaphat School has provided a wonderful environment for our child to grow academically develop friendships with children of many different backgrounds and reinforce our family values that it is important to have a moral compass. Catholic education is a choice you make for your child and your family. We joined St Josaphat Parish because we liked the idea of a parish and school that was looking to grow. When it came time to consider schools we had already felt comfortable with many of the parish families and liked the academic experience the new administration was bringing to the school. Specifically the Dfferentional of Instruction which takes into consideration that children learn differently and so the teachers no longer teach to the middle but have multiple methods of teaching a concept to their class. The Pastor Principal and teachers at St. Josaphat have created an environment that embraces a love of learning respect for others and welcomes diversity.

I am posting this review because I saw a very honest and accurate review of SJS on this site disappear today. The poster attempted to honestly write about some of the problems in the administration but mentioned how wonderful the teachers are. I have seen other poor reviews disappear and it makes me wonder how credible "Great Schools" is as a site for evaluating schools. The reason people choose to post here is because they have seen other parents and staff speak up and face retaliation and/ or termination. MANY people at our school feel as though our principal and her partner operate in an unprofessional manner and create and atmosphere of fear. One cannot accurately evaluate St. Josaphat School without addressing the "elephant in the room."

St. Josaphat is a nurturing community with great teachers and a wonderful principal. Excellent junior high program!

St. josaphat has been an excellent school for my children. The leadership is great and the teachers are amazing. I love the small class size and the curriculum. The students feel safe and loved at SJS. There are teacher's assistants with college degrees in the early grades and there are excellent after school activities. There is also a great aftercare program. The students who graduate from SJS end up at the best high schools in the city. I would highly recommend this school to any family!

Since day one I have been extremely impressed with the caring nurturing and disciplined environment provided by this school and its faculty. In general the school has received recognition for its academic excellence through the Blue Ribbon award. The preschool program has provided my daughter an exceptional social and educational foundation. The teaching staff is extremely committed caring and professional. They do a great job of keeping parents informed on the curriculum and progress of the students through weekly letters and regular conferences. My daughter is challenged on a daily basis and consistently impresses me with her knowledge of concepts I never dreamed would be taught in a preschool setting. The leadership of the school is top-notch and has always made themselves available to address any parents' needs/questions. The school also has a strong PTO providing many opportunities to pitch in and be active with the school. I look forward to my daughter's future at St. Josaphat School.

My child has attended St. Josaphat School for four years and has had an outstanding experience. The teachers are compassionate and committed to the students. The principal is completely dedicated to the school and is always accessible to all parents and children. Parents are extremely active and involved and the parish is a wonderful welcoming place. The education extra-curricular opportunities and enthusiastic teachers make the school an exceptional place for each child to thrive. It has been a joy to watch our child's academic and social progress in an environment where we feel everyone around her truly cares for her well-being.

This is my sixth year teaching at St. Josaphat. It is a warm loving community of teachers students and parents. The administration is supportive and attentive. The parents and children are enthusiastic and positive. I could not think of a better place to work or a better community to be a part of.

My Children attend this school an have so for the past three years. I have found the Principal to be extremely fair and considerate to everyone she encounters. This school provides a loving and caring environment and it reflects in the quality of children it produces as well as their education. It also has the best teachers I have ever encountered. That being said I question the negative remarks I have read on this blog dated March 1. We have been at SJS for three years and think we are better judges of the school than someone who has been here less than a year. As to the remark on February 1 I am not a weathy parent and the principal still has time for my opinion. As for Father Rich he is at church every Sunday. All you need to do is show up!

The principal at this school is completely unprofessional. The preK teachers and activities at this school significantly lack any structure. Nothing was the same as what they showed me from the tour. I went to the principal to see how I could help improve some very simple items along with offering to pay for any improvements and she yelled at me in front of other parents children and employees. I immediately pulled my child from this school. Also the children go off the premise to go to the park and the teachers do not pay attention to the children they chat amongst themselves and text. I would look for another school!

Although this school has just won a blue ribbon award I question the leadership of this principal. She tends to favor the people who are "big supporters". What was once a nice caring school is turning into a snobbish environment run by a few elite. The head pastor is never to be found is there one? I'd look else where.

St Josaphat is a fantastic school. We have two children 4th and 7th grades. The education has been first rate. My kids are extremely happy and have made many great friends. The teachers are exceptional and under the leadership of Miss Cannon the school has thrived. Graduates consistently have attended thier first choice of High Schools in Chicago..

Wonderful school! Great inclusive community. Academics are fantastic with test scores significantly higher than average. Our children feel safe comfortable welcome and confident at school. Lower elementary has Reading Teacher in addition to classroom teacher. Upper grades utilize middle school model. Upper grade students are buddies to lower grade students and this has helped our children feel extremely independent and confident at school functions and outside of school. Fantastic to see our youngsters feel comfortable with children of all ages. It's great that Spanish starts in Preschool and continues through grade 8. Like the Everyday Math curriculum and confident that this approach combined with strong classroom emphasis on language contributes to high test scores high academic achievement. Organized league play with team sports starts in 4th grade. Fantastic way to learn teamwork as well as get exercise. Gym teacher is Athletic Director. There are mini or bitty ball weekend/after school programs.

The school has changed in the past two years. Honestly the community is very clicky and the kids are not very welcoming. The teachers are great(most of them) but the interaction with the church and the school is virtually zero. Save your money (expensive) not worth the money or your time

St. Josaphat School continues to be a blossoming jewel in Lincoln Park. The school continues to graduate outstanding students who matriculate to the high school of their choice including St. Ignatius Walter Payton Whitney Young Northside Prep Latin School Lincoln Park International Baccalaureate Woodlawn Academy St. Patrick and many others. The entering preschool classes for ages 3 and 4 are in extremely high demand. The faculty and staff are held in high regard and meet the high expectations of the community. Many teachers hold or are studying for Master's degrees in Education. Academics are rigorous with emphasis on the liberal arts and sciences including music and art down to the lowest grades. Athletics and after school electives offer a well rounded program for all students. Service to the community including Little Sisters of the Poor and the Lincoln Park Shelter are an integral part of the overall education our children receive.

Outstanding community of dedicated faculty families and staff make St. Josaphat a warm nurturing and academically challenging envirnonment. My 8th grade son was accepted into every Chicago H.S. to which he applied (St. Ignatius Walter Payton Whitney Young Lincoln Park Int'l. Bacc. Program more) after 7 years at St. Josaphat. Excellent school.

I am a student at St. Josaphat and have been going there since i was very young. I love every moment i have experienced at St. Jospahat. I have been through good times and bad times and these moments have prepared me for the future. I will be going to highschool very soon and am going to miss the friends and wonderful teachers at our school. The people i have met at St Josaphat will always stay close to my heart. If you are looking for a place to send your child where they can get a good education and meet friends to last a life time this school is perfect for you.
