California Standards Test (CST)

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

This is the BEST school I have ever been to! Everybody is SOOO nice and friendly and if the parents are thinking about going to hilltop middle pick a better school like Chula Vista Middle School. I like when they play all my favorite songs on Friday during lunch. This school is SOO cool and they serve the best lunches! Plus the school is nice and clean. As a student the teachers always encourage us and try to make us do our best. This is the best school year. 2013-2014. Date 4-16-14 Time 7 02 pm ^_^

The School of Creative and Performing Arts is the only reason for the two star rating. Otherwise I would give it a minus 5 if I could. Typically the teachers are AWOL and subs play movies. Every Friday is 1/2 day. Since the school is now all-year round the teachers get paid even though they are on vacation. Today they were out picketing re their benefits. Cussing is rampant. Many of the parents picking up and dropping off their children appear to be gangsters and are rude to boot. The positives again are the SCPA and the Compact for Success. The CA teachers union has destroyed education. It's all about them and not the students. If you want to be overpaid for what you do and underworked this is the gig for you. We came from private school where the teacher earn considerably less while working much harder wit.h a challenging curriculum to boot. Very disappointed but we cannot afford three in private school at this time. Notably many of the public school teachers can afford the ritzy private schools for their children.

Bad school even worse teachers some are just there to collect a check. Mrs McAllister one of the rudest meanest teachers I have ever met! If she acts like that to a parent just think of how she treats her students!

Gangs drugs and disaster. If you can afford 300-450 a month send your child to a private school. Some are outrageously priced...and in our times that is hard but check out Pilgrim Lutheran in Chula Vista. They keep tuition low and offer assistance. Got my child out as soon as I could afford to.

Incredible School of Creative and Performing Arts program. Mr. Bruderer is the best and their Mariachi...whew!

The faculty seems to just want to push their students through to the next grade level irregardless if they are ready or not. I am disappointed to say that I think some of these teachers lack in their communication to students' parents. I would not recommend this school to your children.

If you want a school without a PTA and bluecollar worker parents go for it. Most teachers do a great job. Just the ones that can't keep order should be reassigned. No parents seem to complain about that. THAT is a problem!

I love this school. The teachers are nice and friendly. They know the exact punishment from trash pick-up to O-Room. TheSCPA also is a great progam because you know which performance talents you have.

its a great school this is my first year and so far it has been a joy being there. Not only do u learn everything other schools teach but they also have programs like dance art choirs and others.

I have seen that CVMS doesn't not care about the quality of education it suppose to provide. I don't think that the resources given to them by the state/community are put to good use.

Chula Vista Middle is a 7th and 8th grade well run middle school. The visual and performing arts program is a seperate cirriculum and a fantastic addition to an already good school. The school is part of the 'compact for success' which guarantees any student with an overall GPA average of 3.0 or higher from 7th thru 12 grade a spot at SDSU. The school is mostly hispanic ethnicity but a very friendly environment. My daughter and 2 of my wifes sisters attended this school and there were never any problems to speak of and was a good experience for all of them. They had a good education for that level and the teachers were willing to work witht them one on one whenever the need arose. Overall a nice school to be a part of.

As a student of Chula Middle I went to CVM in the years 2002-2004 and have enjoyed it! Its a great school if you want to be very involved with the perfoming arts. I had perfoming arts like Choir Colorguard and Band and was able to do all these at the same time and they have gave me a great experience and now I still have the same choir teacher at Chula Vista High which I highly recommend to go to for high school. Hope this helps! Academics are great there from my personal view and the teachers are nice and respect our learning system. Just listen to a student who went there like me. Its a great school!

As an 8th grader I know that Chula Vista Middle School is a great school with exellent teachers! In my 2 year experience I think that this school gives stundents many oppurtunities.Chula Middle has before and after school activities including homework club. And as a school of performing arts it has a dance drama and art classes. And as I've heard this is the only middle school with a dance class.Over all I don't see why no(future) 7th or 8th grader wouldn't want to go to Chula Vista Middle School.

Parents of a child in this school do not what is going on with their child's development. The lack of communication for improving their child's eduaction is horrible at this school.

The school is overcrowded and understaffed. There is little teachers can do to keep students safe and teachers have forgotten how to positively acknowledge their students.

I'm not actually a parent my brother goes to that school now and I went to that school 6 years ago. It is a good school the teachers there are highly qualified to help their students excel in each subject. The administratice office also does their job in keeping the kids disciplined.
