Wow! I'm seeing some great changes within the school. I love how the teachers have jumped into academic lessons from day one. I feel like the staff is really on top of things this year and will show great improvement with our children. Each of them care about our children and have their best interest in mind. I love seeing everyone motivated! Parents however need to get involved more! At the PAC meeting they mentioned the need for parents. Let us know what you need and then we can see if we can help the school & kids.

Highland Elementary in Clovis New Mexico -- My child is in kindergarten and I wouldn't recommend ANY child to attend this school. I am currently seeking a different school in hopes that we will find a better environment for our child to be in. I've been told by community members that have lived here for quite some time is that Highland Elementary was not always like this and it seems to have taken a turn in the last few years. I am so incredibly disappointed on how they handled a class division at the beginning of the school year dumbfounded over a first parent/teacher conference where my child is "doing great!" but "your child hugs their friend too much" -- it's been one strange/shaking my head incident after another. The best is when my child came home to tell me they had talked about God in the classroom. Really? Is that even allowed? But hugs aren't?
Highland is hands down the best elementary school in Las Cruces. Both of my children have been through this school K-5 for a total of 9 consecutive school years. The teachers are caring nurturing and knowledgeable there are opportunities for an after school program through the City of Las Cruces Student Council Young Rembrandts art lessons and Las Cruces Chess Academy are some optional after school programs (free or very low cost for these opportunities). The playground area is huge and the school is in a family friendly neighborhood. There are many opportunities for parents to get involved in the school - PTO Volunteer in Classroom Volunteer in AR store Volunteer for Safe Routes to School Program Book Fairs Career Day Science Fair to name a few. We have been so happy with our years at Highland and will truly miss being a part of this amazing school family!
From the Principal Teachers Secretaries Janitors etc..everyone is wonderful. They are all professional and show their love for children.
Highland Elementary is a great elementary school. The school is smaller than some of the the other area school so more of a family like setting. Instruction is superior at highland they are always pushing the kids to do the very best that they can.
The quality of education at Highland is top notch. I have been very impressed with the staff and administration at Highland Elementary. The principal is kind and knows each child by name. She is a great example of a leader. Highland is a school where the children come first. Each child is encouraged to do their personal best and I am glad to have my children attending Highland Elementary.
I am extremely impressed with the quality of the teachers as well as the professionalism of Highland's Administration. This school provides a safe structured environment which holds high expectations for both its students and its staff. Parental involvement is embraced by the principal and her staff. I am very please that my daughter has the opportunity to spend her educationally formative years at Highland Elementary School.
