I have a choice as to where my son goes to school. We send him to East Marion.

I teach at East Marion High School and am proud to work there. The Great Schools ratings are not current as East Marion has been the highest ranked high school in the Marion County school district for 3 years in a row. That is not opinion but established by the State of Mississippi. Our QDI has consistently risen for years now.

I think East Marion School is the best school in Marion County. I think that all of the students learn everything they need to know.

Since Dr. Banyard has been at East Marion I have seen a significant change in the students attitude towards their education. It has gone from being nonchalant to having great pride in going to school and learning. The times have changed since I've been a student there and I think that Dr. Banyard is doing a fantastic job with the students by taking it back to the fundamental basics of education which are hard work and determination.

I have 3 children who attend this school and must say that I am very encouraged by positive changes made this academic year. My children are excited about learning and are showing enthusiasm with their teachers and the good will fostered at their school. I look forward to more of the same!!!

I am a current student of East Marion and i love my school and always will but personally i think they could really do better. If the school board stops spending so much money on the extracurriculum activities then they could accualy have enough money to buy new books instead of using excuses about money problems. And about the uniforms if they were so concerned about our education they'd get us out of them. I was always tought that you have to be comforable to learn and pay attention but you can't do that in an uniform.

I am a parent of a student at East Marion. I attended Columiba school in the 80s but can see the difference in the two schools. I have seen a significant decline in the overrall academics and administrative leadership at the school. We have had children to cry because a great teacher decided to leave. I think the new administration for the 08-09 school year has a hard job on their hands but being a parent I am behind them 100%. I want our children to be on the level of any child graduating for any other schools. Parents better wake up and help or our children will be forever behind.

The school is great for my son. The teachers Principal and the safety and discipline is great. I attended and I am successful.

My children attended. They do not have AP classes. My daughters ACT scores were awful. The elemlentary was wonderful but after that there is no help from the principles they will not listen to the parents complaints. My daughters had to retake algebra in college. Our children are not protected in high school and they are not being taught like they should. Their is no parent support only for the football team. We need a new school administrator someone who will listen and not hide all the time. Terrible school!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am extremely saddened to hear the comments that have posted here about East Marion. I am alumni and I loved my school...and still love my school. East Marion offered AP classes of all kinds and I was a part of them. We had some of the best teachers marion county has seen. I was actually the valedictorian of one of the most intelligent classes to ever come through East Marion. Of course there is probably room for improvement but that is everywhere. My class got along perfectly. I believe that if the test scores are low it is more the student's and parent's fault than the school's.

My opinion of east marion is very poor. I think if marion county would make each one of the schools in marion county a part of one school that way it would be more equally balanced. I went to east marion when I was in junior high through graduation and it was pretty miserable to me. I wish my kids could go to a school where they felt welcomed.

Well this is what I think about East Marion I went to school there. And my children went there for six years. I took them out because of drugs. All you have to do is just look at the test score and compare them to the other county schools scores. So the academic programs need alot of improvement. I think this needs to be addressed Mr.Robbins

I would like to respond to the statements made about AP classes not being offered at East Marion. We would love to offer an AP class in every subject at East Marion. Unfortunately we have lost teacher units due to a drop in our student population and can no longer offer the few AP classes that we offered in the past. It is not because we do not think they are valuable or needed we simply do not have the manpower to teach all the regular classes and the AP classes. Hopefully that will change but for now that is the reality of budget cuts and loss of staff.

August 2005- The U.S. History 'department' was great until they dropped the A.P. class. Now we have no A.P. classes. A.P. classes need to be offered to all students for every subject. Equal opportunity? Hello. Columbia Highschool has A.P. for everything you could imagine which is something that should be offered to all students in any school they attend even if they have to be bused to other schools.Oh.I might as well voice my opinion on school uniforms.I believe noone has the right to tell anyone how to wear their clothes. They paid for them.I believe uniforms and dress codes are nothing more than a power trip. Not all people look decent or good with their shirt tucked in especially overweight people.I am overweight and it is a complete and total embarrasment to tuck in my shirt. It messes with my self-esteem and confidence.I believe school board members should realize this and have compassion.

Great School with very good teachers and an Excellent Principal. The History department is of the highest quality with US History by far on of the top programs in the state.

East Marion High School is a great school. The faculty and the student body are very friendly. East Marion has a deputy from the Marion County Sheriffs Department on duty the entire school day which makes it safe
