Whenever you walk into the school the staff has a smile on the face. They are very helpful and care for their students. The director is incredible and met the challenge of transforming a school catering a very diverse student population teaching kids from any disadvantaged neighborhood together with gifted children in an IB middle school program. Yes there is way to improve on the organization but the most important is that the heart of the staff is on the right place. Students get a hug when they need it but they are also taught discipline and self confidence. Students that get kicked out of neighboring schools such as Carver tend to regain confidence and growth at Ponce de Leon. This is not because Ponce de Leon is an easier school it is just because the school philosophy is warm and welcoming valuing each student at a fundamental level. This is what encourages students to give their best and regain confidence in themselves. I appreciate the individual approach to counseling which high school is best for your child.

I remember sitting at the classroom and learning through multiple lectures. Meeting teachers and students alike in which are peculiar and yet cunning. I remember meeting friends and friends of friends that have multiple characteristics. Some per say can be a bit annoying. Others are what you can say a wisecrack. Some are shy and others are outspoken. I remember the memories we shared. Through thick and thin we stand our ground. I remembered the trouble makers and the happy go lucky people. (ei. Fieldtripper point dexter skipper vultures chicken foot gang g the loudest Einstein et cetera) All I can say is that there are times when you are paired up with people whom can be a great asset and others not so much. There are times when you are pit into real life situations and such which can prepare you for the future. To the kiddos going to the school let me give you and advice. Whenever you get the chance to do something do it. Do not procrastinate! Do not belittle things. Always do your best so in the end you would never regret your actions. Balance your academics extracurricular and community services. Whatever you do face your consequences head on and never complain.

My daughter is a 7th grade gifted student in the IB program. She's had a great experience so far at Ponce. Last year i was worried about her entering a big school campus after a fairly cozy elementary program but her teachers did a great job reaching out to her and made themselves available via email from the beginning of the year and were great at responding whenever there were concerns or questions. The lead teacher in the IB program is FABULOUS!!!!!! She is like a mom to the kids nurturing them but also giving them the kind of advice they need to navigate middle school. She really knows the kids. Academically teachers have challenged her with interesting cross-disciplinary projects which is what the IB program is all about. Her science teacher last year was amazing and committed - she led a group of kids on a fabulous camping trip to learn about the Everglades! Her Language Arts teacher was a fiercely dedicated burst of energy and creativity. The French program won first place in the county for middle school for I think the 2nd or 3rd year! Math was a great experience too and she was well prepared to enter the Algebra (for those who qualify). Ask to meet a current parent

My son started school this year and absolutely loves it. He loves getting up and ready for school now. He cant wait for the chess club to start so he can learn how to master the game. I found the principal to be very knowledgeable and friendly during the craziness of orientation. The school grounds are lovely and well kept. I love the fact that they have maintained the authenticity of the historic buildings but yet are able to provide a great environment for a school.

My son is a student at the IB program of Ponce de Leon Middle. The administrators and teachers of the program are phenomenal. The curriculum is challenging and very globally-oriented. My son is studying hard and very motivated and I have the school to thank.

This is our 3rd year at Ponce and we continue to be impressed by not only the curriculum of the IB Program but the quality of the Ponce teachers and administrators. They are a team of motivated and dedicated academics striving to ensure our kids succeed. Our son is very proud of his school as are we. We highly recommend Ponce to any family looking for an excellent education administered by a highly professional team.

The teachers earnthe respect of the students because it is apparent that they care. The principal is energetic motivated and positive about the future of the students. The PTSA is envolved and has made great strides in bring community to this schoold. The IB program is challenging and is providing a well rounded view of the world politics and economics that the students need to be sucessful in the future. An excellent education by a caring teacher group; and advanced curriculum which will be respected when my child applies for college; the chance to play sports make friends perform music in concerts; all of this and more is what Ponce offers. My 7th grader has advanced tremendously in the program and is learning more than I could have imagined. As a result of the excellent teaching in this advanced program (the IB program) my child will complete high school (yes they plan ahead that far ahead) with much of his first year of college credits completed saving costs for us and giving him greater opportunities to advance there as well. They took a field trip to the Everglades learn languages and study guitar. There are art programs and other great opportunities. If you are looking for a school program that can help your child have a well rounded education and social network building this school is a wonderful choice. As for the test scores consider that the school is only partial magnet so the scores are for the entire school. The magnet only program would have awesome scores if they could be shown alone. What would I change? More parents getting involved more often.

I am so proud to say that my daughter chose Ponce out if her many choices for middle school. I am extremely happy with her performance and mostly for the performance of her teachers! I was concerned about where Skylar would go to middle school and was very confused by our choices. Skylar was very interested in going to South Miami and was accepted but after weighing her options and all the benefits of the IB program she chose Ponce. I wad extremely happy with her decision and really feel she made the right choice! I think Ponce has so much more to offer her than any other option we had and she has had the best two years of het life there! She has amazing well rounded respectable friends that I am so happy for her to have as piers! I find the program challenging for my intelligent child but also a place where she has made friends for life! I give her experience an "a" and will recommend this school to everyone !

As a parent of an incoming seventh grader I give Ponce de Leon Middle an excellent rating. My son excelled academically and made lots of new friends during his sixth grade year. The IB teachers are caring involved and responsive. The IB coordinator and all the administrators are hands on professionals who will strive to help your child on an individual basis. Ponce is a great school!

Ponce is an exceptional school. The teachers are caring and proactive. The leadership team is also exceptional and extremely student and parent centered. It is one of the finest schools in teh area. The IB programme is a notch above all the rest.

this school in all honesty is filled with empty minded students trust me i wasted 3 years of my teenage life there for no reason...this school does not give student the option to explore the arts let alone sports. the teachers are lazy most of the times i attended Ponce since 2005-2006 (6 grade) 2006-2007(7th grade) and 2007-2008 (8th grade) i am now a Senior at South Miami Senior High for the School of the Arts for Fine Art and DO NOT RECOMMEND TO ANY PARENT to send their child to this middle school...my brother is the most recent of our family to have left Ponce me and my sister and 3 other cousins beofre us have gone there...during the years of my cousins up until my years the school has been moderate enough for a good educaton but now my parents are truly disappointed that my brother was not challenged enough in his stuides everything was to easy...and to prove that we're not slaker children my older sister will now be graduating from FIU with a double major in marketing and accounting i go to South Miami Senior High for Fine Art and my brother will now be moving on to Miami Coral Park for engineering

I have been substituting at Ponce for the 2009-2010 School Year and I find it to be excellent! A very positive environment great students and adm/faculty and a beautiful campus!

This school is great. This is my last year at this school and i can honestly say that i do not want to leave. The teachers are very caring and are just simply amazing. Each student finds ways to bond with each teacher here which makes the whole experience way smoother. The teachers are willing to motivate and push every single student to do better instead of just punishing them right away. The school has a big campus and has strong security. The administration apart from a select few are very caring but at the same time do not let students walk all over them. The principle though is another issue. She's doing fine with the school but she really wasn't the best choice. Its got alot of extracurricular activities lots of educational but fun field trips and you will make lasting memories & friendships. But great school.
