What I Love About My House

Chad Cohen

Chad Cohen — I consider myself a pretty pragmatic person, so when I first saw my late '70s split-level home, I was instantly attracted to its layout and convenient location. It has a large, attached two-car garage to store our gear, all but one of the bedrooms are on the same floor and we have a huge, beautiful bay window overlooking our front yard, which lets in a lot of light even on the gloomiest of days. My "man cave" in the daylight basement is still a work in progress but I dream of building a game room and installing a cocktail table-style arcade game featuring Ms. Pac-Man and Asteroids, plus adding an Addams Family pinball machine to complement. Our backyard has two tiers and is nearly all grass - a great place to play bocce ball, let our dog, Vito, out for a run, and gather with friends. It's a future playground for our baby girl and is now a pass-through to many nocturnal critters (raccoons, moles, opossums). Our house is a very short walk to a great local park and we frequently see neighbors and their kids walking down our street to skateboard, picnic or play with their remote-controlled airplanes. Hard to ask for a better house to raise a family.
