What I Like About My House
Stan Humphries — One of the biggest reasons I love my house is the neighborhood. It's teeming with children, filling the streets with the sounds of laughter and play whether it's playing baseball or building snowmen. My two favorite rooms in the house are the living room and the children's playroom. The living room is quite comfortable, affording a gorgeous view of the forest of evergreens across the street, and it offers a quiet retreat from the children who, like all children, are repelled by the anti-kid nature of a living room (when you have three kids, a retreat like this is important). I love the playroom because of an ill-conceived choice of paint color that has left it almost riotous in its playfulness (paint swatches are a strange, cruel mistress). A full year after the paint has dried, I can't pass the room without chuckling and its good cheer is contagious. While Martha probably wouldn't agree, I believe it's a "good thing."
