Given that we built our home, there are a lot of things I like about it. I really enjoyed the design and building process, but enough decisions were crammed into a 12-month period that my wife tells me that I can’t ever build another house again (at least not with her, and she’s a saint of a woman and a keeper so I think that’s the end of it).
My favorite part of the house is our rear deck, which overlooks the backyard and small pond. In the early morning, I love to come out and watch the sun rise as geese mill about the pond before taking flight somewhere else (of course, sometimes I wish they were quieter before 6 a.m.). In the early evening, I love sitting there and unwinding from the day, far removed from the bustle of the workday, hearing of all the day’s adventures from the rest of my family. And in between those hours, I love that the yard is usually filled with my three children playing soccer with their friends or getting into some mischief which, for now, I still get to hear about at the end of the day.
