Kentucky Core Content Tests (KCCT)

In 2010-2011 Kentucky used the Kentucky Core Content Tests (KCCT) to assess students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 through 12 in reading, social studies, science, writing, and math. The Elementary School results displayed on GreatSchools profiles are for grades 3 through 5 combined for each subject. Middle School results are for grades 6 though 8 combined, and High School results are for grades 10 though 12 combined. The KCCT is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Kentucky. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the test.

My son just graduated in June 2013 from SOHS. It was rated by US News & World Report as the #2 school in Kentucky. (#1 was DuPont Manual which is a magnet school in Jefferson County that gets to hand pick its students.) SOHS on the other hand is a true public school that offers an incredible number of outstanding teachers several with doctorates most with masters and who are creative and engaging. My son's AP Calc BC teacher would come into class singing theorems while playing the guitar. (He got a 5 on that test thanks to that teacher who made learning so enjoyable and memorable.) His AP Language and Culture teacher had each student paint a ceiling tile based on the book they were reading so each subsequent year of students walking in will see literature everywhere they look. The band director Mr. Mac is phenomenal and award winning. Anyone who can direct marching band with 70 players and color guard and never raise his voice is amazing. This is the place you want to be. Just go to 1 fall football game and you'll be sold on school spirit and the athetic program.

As a former alumni of the second graduating class we have always been excellent! We have always had great teachers and great staff.

As a former teacher at this Blue Ribbon (national award) school I can't say enough about the commitment effort and quality in all areas of endeavor at SOHS. Continuous improvement was our constant goal and I know that focus still exists.

Great school in area some things are just too ridiculous though! New dress code too harsh!
