the education is AMAZING but I wish 5th grade was a lot more fun than it is

My daughter is out of Big Creek this year. This school has excellent teachers. My daughter enjoyed going to school. Staff and teachers are very dedicated and they love what they do and work hard at it. Mrs. Drone is awesome. On imorovement side PTA is too much focus on celebrating B'days and gifts etc. They have very good intetions but I believe PTA got carried away. This school is extermly poor in area of promoting math science and technology. Teachers lack the energy and depth in science and math. After school programs need complete overhaul. They need improvement in all areas. Luch meals is worst than junk food. However teaching staff is excellent and they are doing their best within the scope of their reach.

The teachers are awesome. Ratio of teacher to student is small. It's a blue ribbon school. Excellent method of teaching. Wonderful staff. Great location. Excellent school activities and after school program.

I am so glad that we are now out of this school. I found the admin to be focused only on one thing- scores. Although my child did very well in school they did not enjoy being there. They felt intimidated by some but not all of the teachers they had. One teacher did not cooperate with parents at all when it came to using the Parent Portal. They would not post grades until the end of the grading period. The purpose of Parent Portal is to be able to monitor your child's grades throughout the period in order to assist them if needed.

Both of my children attend Big Creek and I couldn't be more pleased with the education they are receiving. Sure it's not a brand new school like some other schools in the district but its teachers are among the best the most dedicated and genuinely care about "their" kids. The parents are very involved and keep a finger on the pulse of what's happening at their school so it is very difficult for any poor experience to fall through the cracks which is great. The PTA is an award-winning PTA has lots of volunteers and does a LOT for the school. One of my kids is in Horizons (gifted program) and I am grateful that he is getting special attention and education. Overall if you have the opportunity to get into this school you should jump at the chance.

The school is academically very advanced. However as a Forsyth County School the school is starting so early than other counties. Kids are waking up very sleepy and even no enough time for breakfast or to being awake. They are going to school very tired. Further the school has an unspoken policy like other Forsyth Schools that If your kids have a ADHD or OCD and their grades are not so bad they are not giving any extra help (EIP Learning lab speech therapy or ESOL) and waiting your kids'grades are to be less than average even you have a 2 doctor's note. So it is like doctors waiting patient to be dead and after that trying to diagnose. But school is academically vert very good. Usually mothers are not working and their involment is more than other schools .

I have 2 children who are in this top-rated school and we just LOVE Big Creek Elementary School. The teachers are truly dedicated to the children and work so hard with the children to ensure that they are developing academically and socially. The strong parents' involvement makes this school unique as well. Big Creek Elementary School is so successful because it has an excellent leadership team in place. Both the Principal and Vice Principal are always available to meet with me whenever I have any concerns or questions (of course I do make advance appts with them). The teacher in charge of the Horizon program at this school is AMAZING! She manages to motivate my son into expanding his reading list - something that I have been very unsuccessful in. My son has always refused to read any other books apart from Magic Treehouse and so I am deeply grateful and thankful to Big Creek Horizon teacher for her help.

Big Creek Elementary is one of the highest rated school in Georgia thanks to hard work and dedication of the teachers and administrators. At the same time Big Creek does need to get kids involved in more technology math science competitions. We are very proactive when it comes to celebration rewards sports literaure language and charities. That's great. Same kind of resolve needs towards math science engineering and technology. We lacks the focus on engineering and science and that is evident in Big Creek Elementary. We are on bottom in education in USA which means we Big Creek stake-holders are on bottom too. Without new shift in our attitude we will hurt our kids whom we love most. GA is under-represented in top colleges top-postions in big firms and top inventors in USA. There is some cause & effect relationship here. This is not a random situation. We elementary school parents and educators have only 7 to 11 years left to do justice to our college-bound kids. GA needs a revolution in education to qulify our kids in global competition and it needs to start at elementary level. Yes I am proud that my kid goes to Big Creek Elementary.

If your child fits the 'Big Creek Box' you will be very happy with the school. They are a high achieving school and the teachers are committed to ensuring that those children do well. However if you have a child who you suspect may have any kind of learning issue I would not recommend this school at all. They seem to have an unspoken policy of letting a child fail before they are given any help....and then the 'help' is questionable at best. Having been with the school through the change of adminstration many parents had hoped that a 'new broom would sweep clean.' That doesn't seem to have been the case. Having a child who fits the 'box' and one who doesn't I find the negatives involving the one child to outweigh the positives that Big Creek offers the other child.

Big Creek has an excellent staff dedicated to our children! Great PTA and parent involvement! Warm friendly happy atmosphere! My children love it!

Big Creek balance academic excellence with a warm family atmosphere that welcomes students and parents. Its small size allows for more individual attention to students helping them to learn in the way that best suits them.

I have 2 children in Big Creek. I am active in the PTA. Dr. Davis has done a fine job of making parents feel welcome providing children with a safe environment striving for excellence and teacher satisfaction. These teachers are the best in the business with new graduates looking to work at this school. Newcomers will need to understand the community churches and county provide endless after school activities at all the local parks and facilities. Please don't let any misunderstanding about the lunch room help form opinion about the school. I will be glad to help shed light on it. Parents are always roaming the halls and are a active part of their children's education. Being from the north my only complaint is the school calendar with school starting in August. Spend one day in the school unannounced and you see smiling children proud parents and respected teachers.

When we were relocating to the area we actually went out of our way to live in the Big Creek community. Dr. Davis his exceptional staff and a high level of parent involvement make Big Creek the best elementary school in the district. The priority at Big Creek is excellence in education and the school's track record speaks for itself. Big Creek was recently rated the 'safest' school in Metro Atlanta with the fewest incidents of behavioral issues in the 2005-2006 school year. The PTA at Big Creek is one of the most successful in the entire state providing a high rate of participation and funding for various student centered projects. While there may not be school-based after school programs other than child care the surrounding community provides a wide assortment of activities. In any of our interactions with the front office the staff have been professional and accommodating.

Level of parent involvement is outstanding they are a significant part of what makes this school so great. The quality of teachers and the principals level of commitment to hiring good teachers is another strong factor in why this is a wonderful school. My two children attend this school. I have a first and third grader. All my years have been very positive and I am pleased. I am happy with most of the academics and would like to see Spanish in the school two to three times a week. I am delighted that the PTA pays for many extra programs to come into the school. The school has a friendly and positive environment. My kids have always been happy to go to school here. I would not change their school for another in this area.

I have 2 students at Big Creek and our experience has been extremely positive. I have not seen high teacher turnover - most of my children's teachers have been there for many years. Parent involvement is very high - and very welcomed - at Big Creek. Academics are the focus at Big Creek as they should be. However music art PE and French are offered as part of the curriculum. Extracurricular classes and sports are not offered but I am not aware that these programs are available in any Forsyth Co. school at the elementary level. There are a number of family-oriented activities and programs throughout the year. I'm a VERY happy Big Creek parent and wanted to do my part to get a more balanced view of the school out on this site.

Hi I have been a parent of 3 kids at Big Creek Elementary for a few years. Although Big Creek has a good reputation academically I have been disappointed with the lack of social programs offered in the afternoons. There are zero except babysitting.Their main goal is academics only. While Dr. Davis strives for Blue ribbons I feel he is from the old school and out of touch with what kids really need. I agree with the last person who wrote about Big Creek. The kids eat regularly in the dark with 10 mins to gobble their food down.Sorry this is not realistic what are we teaching our kids? Aren't they stressed enough with out rushing them through their food?

Big Creek does not seem to have an open door policy with parents unless you are 'Known or on the In List.' The Horizons (gifted program) is selective in this aspect as well. Great teachers come and go quick. There are no extracuricular activities offered. The prinicpal discontinued after school activities for unknown reasons. Parents are not welcomed with their concerns with an open minded staff. Where is the interest in the kids activities after school? No sports no art everything cancelled. What happened to the well rounded school and smiling faces with sincerely welcoming principals and front staff? The children are screamed at during lunch 'Be Quiet' 'No talking' and have to eat in the dark. They are kids afterall. As a parent I have experienced all the above and was very misinformed upon entering this school.

Big Creek Elementary is head and shoulders above any school in this district. The teachers facilities and parent involvement are amazing. Languages music art are taught as well as the important disciplines. Kids are taught at an early age to excell and to do their very best. The teachers make every effort to ensure the best possible education and experience for their students. Families are welcomed as part of the entire experience. No wonder Big Creek is nationally recognized as one of the finer schools.
