A collaborative approach to design and construction is a core principle of the practice. Each project represents a merging of ideas from the office, clients, and craftsmen. The result is a highly customized solution responsive to contemporary living, sensitive to tradition, and improving with age.
We work with homeowners, real estate developers, real estate brokers, and builders in all stages of design and construction adapting our aesthetics to meet a range of budgets.
Constructed in the late 1800's as a hotel, the current owners purchased the residence in the late 1960's as a family retreat. Several earlier renovations addressed small sections of the property, however, none created a cohesive architecture in the 9,000 square foot structure. The Hirshson Design Group developed new plans for 7,000 square feet of the house. An abandoned catering kitchen was transformed into a formal entry complete with a paneled staircase to the second floor. Interior partitions were removed to create one large gathering space with an open kitchen and dining area. Walls of glass doors open views to the lake and direct access to multi-level outdoor entertaining spaces. A new mud room and library provide transitional rooms between the great room, a new series of family bedroom suites, and an existing living room.
