My first experience in real estate was over 30 years ago as a Homebuyer. I found a house I liked and called the Listing Agent to show it to me. She forgot about our appointment & didn't show up! I knew these Agents were making a lot of money, despite what they might have lacked in service. So I decided to get my license, make some money by selling a few houses, and save money on the commission when I decided to sell my own home. I had no idea that one day I'd own the most successful Real Estate office in Rancho Cucamonga!
Having moved across the country recently at that time, I knew very few people who could refer business to me. I had to build my business literally one client at a time. After my day job as an Accountant, I'd answer calls at the front desk after hours from 6-8 p.m. Remember this was before the age of the Internet! In 1985, I bought a Prudential California Realty franchise. In 1991, I bought the building we are in now – an 11,500 sqft facility in the heart of Rancho Cucamonga's Civic District. In 2013 we transitioned to Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Realty. Selling real estate is a different game now and we are taking it to the next level. These are exciting times!
I do things a little differently than most. My office doors are wide open – you can see what I do, go with me on listing appointments, have me accompany you at your listing appointments, and hear how I speak with clients. This in-the-trenches training is vital to your growth. My personal listings generate opportunities for newer Agents coming up in the ranks. They are able to do open houses in homes at higher price points. They are able to get listings in desirable neighborhoods much sooner than they might have on their own. They are able to market themselves with my listings and build a solid business base. Being that I own the building – as opposed to just leasing it – puts us in a more sound financial situation. In the past during tough economic conditions, several offices in town were forced to shut their doors. But mine stayed open and I kept everything going for several years until economic conditions smoothed out. I never gave up on my Agents – I am dedicated to them and their success.
When you've been in the biz for as long as I have, you know a good wave when you see one, and this is a VERY good wave. If you have a few years of sales experience under your belt, you obviously have an advantage over most newbees. But even a newbee can do very well your first year and then plan to double or triple that income the next year – with the right support.
