  • This project set out to invert the conventional means of organizing a single family home, taking an existing, highly compartmentalized ranch dwelling and converting it in to a contemporary space for living that allows for expansive open spaces and a welcoming, informal atmosphere. Above these spaces, an existing pitched roof is cut laterally and folded back up in order to blend the interior with the landscape. This blurring internalizes a hillside garden where an existing, 300 year old Sycamore tree becomes the new centerpiece of the expanded house. While the public areas are open and blend seamlessly with one another, the Library trades openness and informality for introspection and tranquility, anchored by a fireplace that floats in glass with the hillside and ancient tree just beyond.

  • My goal would be to combine the earth tones of the beach, with the natural elements of wood and water along with view, to build a practical, relaxed living environment.

The living environment should not overshadow the natural beauty of the beach, but blend together.

While individual rooms allow for privacy, the house would have multiple spacious gathering indoor/outdoor rooms for friends, family, pets and nature.

This house would be a place where you would naturally set down the smartphone, turn off the TV/tablet, and ignore the game player and just take a breath and enjoy the beauty and quiet of the waves crashing.

Several generations should be able to enjoy this home.
