  • Nearly 20 years ago, a San Francisco attorney passed by an unusual sight: builders were attempting to construct a home on a narrow and very steep hillside. The urban lot was typical in its unforgiving dimensions: a mere 25' x 75'. The frames were obstructed by what looked like the oldest tree in San Francisco. And yet, the building was completed and, witnessing this seemingly impossible feat, the lawyer was hooked. What began as a desire for a new master bath ended with a to-the-stubs-in-every-room rebuild. The only remnants of the original home are the tree and a four story circular staircase that allows one to go from floor to floor while marveling at the majestic oak tree.
