  • Thoughtful reconfiguration of interior spaces and circulation allowed a 107-year old residence to be sensitively updated and satisfy the daily needs and functions of a 21st-century family of four. The existing building structure and footprint remain intact and unchanged, except for the addition of a new attached 3-car garage.

The existing 1-story 1990\'s low-pitch sunroom addition was kept in its majority and over framed. The existing foundation walls, roof structure and much of the wall framing all remain in place with minimal modification and hidden within the new over framing. A new large over framed gable with a smaller inverted, cantilevered gable with custom structural brackets announce the new entry for guests arriving by car and provides cover at the back landing. A new stair to the basement was added just off the new rear entry.

A new attached 3-car garage became part of the program and renovation requirements when the existing free-standing 3-car Carriage House was converted into a dwelling.
