  • This 1100 SF space is a reinvention of an early 1960s unit in one of two semi-circular apartment towers near San Francisco's Aquatic Park. The existing design ignored the sweeping views and featured the same humdrum features one might have found in a mid-range suburban development from 40 years ago. The clients wanted to transform the apartment into a pied-a-terre with the feel of a high-end hotel getaway: elegant, sleek, exciting.

We began by reapportioning the space between the master suite and the living room to reveal all of the landmark views right from the entry: the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, and the Bay Bridge. The oval living area was envisioned along new, theatrical lines that echoed the breakwaters in the port area below, the shape of the building itself, and the cable arches of the Golden Gate Bridge. The backlit soffit ceiling further extends the oval. The entry wall is composed of a single slab of iridescent Laurentian Green granite.
