The master bedroom as we know it today is a relatively new addition to American homes. As central heating became more widespread in the 19th and 20th century, bedrooms became larger. As leisure time also became more important, the bedroom was designed not just a spot for sleeping, but a place for relaxation-a retreat from the rest of the house. Large closets and in-suite bathrooms are common in many homes built after the 1970s.
With updating a master bedroom, keeping in mind the additional features like the closet and the bathroom, can make it a bigger remodel project. Design the room to be cohesive and consider movement from space to space within the room.
