I am a student of DuBose middle School. I have been for three years and those three years were the best years of my life. And I have to enjoy it because I'm leaving soon. There are some bulling issues but that's for people who can not be quiet and gossips. All the teachers that I had and still have are wonderful and helpful people. All the related arts teachers are really fun and still have discipline. If you are wondering if you should send your kid to this school all I have to say is that If they are a good student they will have no problem. Administration are really nice and so is the nurse. The school is very clean and nice.
I am a former student of dubose middle school (2006 to 2007 and half way through 2007) and let me tell you in dubose It was a pretty bad school year you see when i was there i had to deal with constant bullying by the student body and let me tell you if you go to dubose do NOT go into specal ed becuase that is just like spraying a sign saying bully me.teachers i admitt are ok but they could care a bit more about students school life like bullying. and the principal (not sure if he is gone or not) during my year and a half when ever i got sent to principals office he would try multiple things belive it or not he once said i could get arested just by talking a lot in the real world. and that year the new bully policie at schools activated meaning if a kid atacked me and that happened around 12 to 14 times and i fight back defending myself i would get in as much trouble i have one thing to say to that policies NO WAY!!!! What do you want me to get beat up.if i had a choice between getting hit possibly possibly badly hurt and fighting back and tacking BIR i am picking BIR every time. BUT the teachers can be nice and food is decint other than what i listed the school is ok.
We got transferred to this school From OMS due to some bullying issues my son was dealing with from other students. He went from getting straight A's to becoming an avg student at OMS. We have heard great things about the adminstration here and lets just say what we heard is correct. They really crack down on bad behavior and because of that my son loved this school. Although our house is up for sale now which is fine I don't want to deal with the admin at OMS with my other 3 boys. We have never been more impressed with the teachers wanting to actually "teach" the students instead of making them feel like at OMS they were being bothered. Don't always compare the report card ratings read the parent comments before you choose a school for your kids.
awesome teachers and school go wildcats yaya!!!!!
So far I have been adequately impressed with the GATE program at Dubose. I was concerned about a great math teacher quitting during the first 9 weeks this past year. Mr. Farrell is a scary looking dude and seems to have the kids respect. The communication is great once you ask for it and with any school it is only as good as what the parents put into it as well. I have liked all the GATE teachers so far.
Dubose has the best group of teachers in the State and they have such a passion for teaching. They encourage and support their students to be successful-they make the students want to not only set but also achieve high(er) goals for themselves. The efforts of the teachers and principals were undying. There was always extra help(tutoring) available and always a pleasant positive atmosphere.
I have a son in the 9th grade at Summerville High School. He was a student at 2 middle schools before being enrolled at Dubose middle school. He had been in and out of trouble at the previous middle schools. The principals at Dubose made every effort to give my son a fresh start. He was very reluctant to take this offering and he continued to do everything he could to get out of school. It was the undying efforts of Mr. Farrell and his staff that finally convinced my son that he was taking the wrong path. He eventually got his act together and actually passed his 8th grade year. I give all the credit to Mr. Farrell and his staff for my son's success. He continues doing well in school today.
The new administration is doing a great job! As a active parent who is at the school on a weekly basis I can honestly say I am impressed with the atmosphere of the faculty and student body. We would like to see more parental involvement but that is with every public school.
I am a parent of a DuBose Middle School student. I have been involved with other Middle Schools in the area and feel as though DuBose Middle School is superior to the others. I fully appreciate the efforts set forth by the current administrative staff at DuBose. The teachers are highly motivated and very much supported by the administration. Education is the primary goal at DuBose but there is emphasis placed on a well disciplined and structured student body.
I am a former DuBose student (currently a freshman at Summerville High School) and I was very disappointed with this school. The principals are out of touch with the many problems facing their student body which include a lack of motivation and pathetic test scores. The academic atmosphere is unchallenging and bland and those teachers that do try and make up for this (English I teacher Mrs. Bozier being my favorite) are met with criticism from both students and parents. This is an ernest plea to all of the students of DuBose to learn not slack off because SHS is not one big joke and they will not wait for you.
We moved from NJ last June and my seventh graders transition into DuBose was a pleasant and easy process. Everyone in the office and guidance were very helpful. Parents should understand that most of the negative comments on this site are from the previous administration. As of the 2006-2007 school year DuBose has a new principal Mr. Kenneth Farrell.Bringing about change does not happen over night. From what I have experienced so far Mr. Farrell is passionate about making changes in the culture at DuBose. As a parent and very active parent volunteer I fully support his efforts.Parents play a significant role in the success of the children in the school.I feel the future of DuBose is very bright and I am excited about being involved in it.
My child started 6th grade here in 2006 from a private school. I love that he has the opportunity to try different types of music classes (steel drums guitar) and an engineering type class. The GATE academics have been just as challenging as the private school and the teachers have been responsive and helpful. The NEW Principals are very hands on and are working hard to change the negative impressions from years past.
Our transition into middle school has been easy. The new administration has been encouraging and shows commitment to their children and staff. Our teachers have shown a tremendous amount of care and support for my children. I have found the guidance department informative and helpful with any questions I might have. When I have the chance to volunteer I feel the teachers & staff have been appreciative. I look forward to the next 2 years.
As an active member of the PTSA I agree DuBose is a great school. The entire staff is focused on improving the education of each and every child.
My son attended Dubose Middle this year. I have had nothing but problems this entire year. The kids are rude and fight on a daily basis.(lots of bullying) The school refuses to get rid of the problem children. I know of a few children that have been expelled three and four times this year only to go to the school board and go right back into the school. The buses are the same way. Parents need to be notified if their child is not behaving and if that doesn't work get rid of them. That's why we have Givhan's school for these problem children. God help this school!
I have a child at this school and i feel as thought the school staff just puts the children out there to fend for themselves. For two years every time you go to the web page to find out about homework for my child it say under construction as it still says and here we are in a new school year this is sad. Also you have the intouch and that doesn't work either. But you are in touch with making sure the shirts are tucked in . Something is wrong with this picture.
Both my children attended Dubose for three years. My son had a group of excellent teachers he is an honor student and I never had any problems. However my daughter's teachers were awful. There was no communication between myself and them. I was able to get 3 out of five of her teachers to meet with me one time. The two that would not take time from there day to even return a phone call e mail or have a meeting were the two classes she had the most trouble.
For the two years we lived in this district my son attended this school. We were very unsatisfied with the education he got there. The main problems are daily fighting of students out of control busing situation and lack of professionalism by the guidance department staff. We did try to solve the problems that our son had with the district office but found them to be unwilling to help. We have lived in many different areas of the country and found this district and mainly this school to be the worst education experience to be had! Our realtor recommended this district as one of the top in the state. If this is true South Carolina has some work to do on their schools!
The teachers at Dubose are exceptional. My only problem was with the administration and counsellors. Their priorities are a little skewed. They seem more interested in where shirts are tucked in and name tags visible than what is going on in the child's life. As a former teacher I found it disturbing that a child who needed food got less attention than the one who didn't tuck in his shirt. That is not fair or right.
